Sorority sponsors book and clothing drive
By Candice Warren | Staff Writer
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Mighty Tau Chapter is sponsoring the Knowledge is Power Book Drive and the Sisters on the Move Business Clothing Drive every Wednesday during the month of April.
Book donations will be given to the Main Branch of the Detroit Public Library.
Coffman said that it was her idea to set the book drive's goal to 1,000 books. All types of books will be accepted, she said.
Coffman is coordinating the event, along with her soror, Jeanetta Ruckes. She mentioned that there are youth groups and homes that will take the books and clothing as they are.
The FIA is designed to help protect Michigan children and adults, provide juvenile justice services, and help individuals get employment.
Good quality, gently used clothing is appreciated, as well, Coffman said.
Coffman explained that the donated clothes could be used by people who need something decent to wear to job interviews.
The TAU chapter also participates in Focus: HOPE, Project Cherish and Coats for Kids.
Interested donors can bring books and clothing to The Student Center Building, North Commons area every Wednesday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
