is it possible?
Greetings,
I have been doing research on a variety of organizations, NPHC, NPC, non-collegiate...and have narrowed down my search of sisterhood to the great AKA. However, I have no idea how to begin contacting a grad chapter, and I have no idea if I'd even be accepted. You see, I am caucasian.
I understand and respect that no intake conversations take place in public forums, but in your years of being involved in AKA, have you seen white women become members of AKA, particularly in grad chapters?
I know that membership is something that must be earned, but in my heart of hearts, I feel that my home will be with the pink and green.

IF YOU KNOW YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO ASK MEMBERSHIP QUESTIONS ON HERE WHY ARE YOU DOING IT?
FYI
If you have done any research at all you would know that Eleanor Roosevelt was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha and she is white. Alpha Kappa Alpha considers women of high ethical standards who are willing to do hard work and service for our organization. We do not discriminate against propectives because of their race.
You really need to have good reasons why you are interested, there is more to being an AKA than being in the land of pink and green
Visit www.aka1908.com you WILL find all the information you need there.

Sorry to crash...
Check out December 2000 issue of Ebony Magazine. There is an article of Whites in NPHC groups. You probably can find the back issue in your library.
I will bow out and leave this question to the wonderful ladies of AKA

I saw that article!
Jill - I remember reading that article, but if I recall correctly - that was focusing on undergrad members, not those aspiring for grad membership.
nachural -
I have visited aka1908.com, and have found several grad chapters in my area. I was not asking for specifics about membership intake. I would not dare be disrespectful in that manner. I was just looking for validation that what I have read is true, that AKA, altho a HBGLO, would accept me for who I am. I know of other organizations that shall remain nameless that may say that they are open to all...but in practice are not. I had hoped that what I have seen and read is true!
I have known several AKA's throughout my life, and have always been impressed with them and their involvement. I feel that I could be a hard worker in community service - which I am involved in on many levels already - and know that this is where I belong.
I remember reading threads earlier about when you knew you wanted to be a __________. In a way, I've been knowing that I've been wanting to be an AKA for many years.

If my sistergreeks with permit me to say...
Teacup, if you've known that AKA is what you would like to be a part of for many years, then you should also know that the color of your skin will not matter. As we say to all those seeking information, it would be best to direct your question to those members in your area. They would be best in assisting you.

I do, but...
I do understand that the color of my skin should not matter, it's my heart and desire (and hands to work) that does. I just have not met any caucasian AKA's, hence - my apprehension.
I am in the process of contacting members in my area, as well as others that I know that are involved in AKA for advice and assistance in this process. Thank you for your replies and validation. I hope to one day be welcomed into your storied sisterhood!

Please fill in the blank. I have always had my eye on the pink and green.
What or who was the source of the information that you needed validation on? There is a contact page on our national website, please direct any of your questions about ANYTHING to the email address listed for non-member inquiries.
thanks

This is the thread I was referring to: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...threadid=65210
And by "validation," I guess I meant more like personal validation, not validation regarding the organization's ideals. Apologies if that was confusing!

Teacup, please stop while you are still kind of ahead. Take everyone's advice and choose another route.

I believe she meant "you" in the general sense hence the "_________" fill in the blank for whatever organization and not you/nachural specifically.

Pardon me for the interruption, but I believe this statement was the GENERAL YOU and not specifically you, Nachural, which is why she did not state AKA because the thread relates to NPHC or BLGO members overall and not AKA members or Nachural specifically.
I believe that her reading the aforementioned thread helped her to better see that perhaps AKA is the sorority that she would like to pursue.

That is correct, CrimsonTide4 and allsmiles_22, it was a general statement - not specifically stating that nachural was a poster. I enjoyed reading that thread, and it spurred me to do more research on my own. Everyone has their own stories as to how and why they knew a particular organization was to be their home, and they are all heartwarming.
