AIs: Where were you initiated?

Did you get initiated with your Alumnae Chapter's collegiate chapter? Did you go through initiation with collegiates?
At convention?
Or did they hold a special initiation just for you?

Got initiated with the fall 03 Collegiate Class at UBC. The following year UBC got Panhellenic housing

I think it would be SO COOL to get initiated at convention

I was initiated in June 2004 at the International Convention along with three other alumnae initiates. On paper, I was affiliated with Epsilon Gamma chapter, University of San Diego, even though I never attended that college.

I was initiated by my chapter in a ceremony planned just for me. I was just home for the weekend and on my way back out of town. I probably made NPC history that day, as my ferret Lexie was also in attendance.

My grandmother who is also an AI was initiated at Convention last summer with several other women.

Mine is sort of a special case, since I was offered alumna membership when my local was initiated as a chapter of Alpha Delta Pi. But I'm sure parts are similar to what happens with some AIs from other orgs.

I was in the second batch of initiates-- all of the collegians, plus four alumnae initiates-- and all of us were initiated by the then International Grand President. The Grand Council reps went through the Alpha ceremony for each batch, then the initiation procedures for each group. After that, four of us alumnae went through Jewel Degree. That was one very looooong day! The installation banquet was later that night.

It was in the chapter room in the sorority dorm. Trying to get everything closed off from other sorority access must have been fun. We ended up borrowing the chapter room of one sorority next door in order to be able to do everything (there were four CRs on each wing of the main floor).

I *heart* Jewel Degree...

It sucks that ADPi was only on campus for six years.... I hope that they'll one day return to Valpo.

Question

Question for the NPC ladies...

For Alumnae Initiation, do your sororities not require a membership intake/pledge program prior to the initiation?

If it's private information, I do understand!

Edited because I slipped up and said Alumni instead of Alumnae

Another question for AIs:

What sort of celebration did you have AFTER initiation?

I think some groups have a program, others do not. I am a DPhiE and we do not have a formal program at this time, although I have been recommending that we create one. I pretty much had to figure it out as I went along, although I already knew a great deal about the organization before initiation.

Now we tend to take the view that it is the sponsor who should educate the AI. So, when my grandmother initiated, I sat down with her to tell her about the organization, go over some "do's and don'ts." If she was going to be more involved, I would probably do something more formal with her.

Ok - that answers some questions! Thank you

We always have an initiation banquet afterwards. Pretty good grub, if I say so myself
