Happy Birthday, Chi Omega

Founded at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville on April 5th 1895, Chi Omega Fraternity began as four women's attempt to create a lasting organization through which they could enjoy friendship, fun and a unique sense of belonging. Motivated by the desire to start a secret society, similar to mens fraternities of the day, Jobelle Holcombe, Jean Vincenheller, Ina May Boles, and Alice Simonds first established the tradition of Chi Omega Sisterhood. Dr. Charles Richardson, a distingusihed member of the University community and a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, agreed with our first members in identifying the benefit women would receive through membership in their fraternal group. With his help, the four women established the principles and objectives of Chi Omega that continue to guide us today.

Chi Omega was designed to be a national organization and after establishing the first chapter in Fayetteville, the dedication and enthusiasm of the first members helped Chi Omega expand naturally and easily into every part of the country. The commitment to the ideals of our Fraternity has enabled Chi Omega to thrive into the 21st century. Today Chi Omega is the largest national women's fraternal organization and our sisterhood is shared by over 320,000 initiated sisters on over 170 campuses and in more than 300 alumnae groups across the United States.

Happy Eleusinia, Sisters!!!!

We had our alumnae brunch yesterday and it was wonderful! We had a great time and it made me so proud to be a Chi Omega!
