A Thank You "Note"

About a month ago I was laid off from my printing/design job. Before my last day I ran into one of my clients at church.

Long story short, since she knew that I was going to be unemployed, she offered to let me work for her part time as a designer while I got my feet back on the ground. Since I'm also changing careers, she has helped me redo my resume and introduced me to different people in the industry. And she's turned out to be a good friend.

I like working for her but the job is only part time. I have the option of going back to my old full time job from two years ago and most likely will because they offer benefits, something I sorely need.

I wanted to thank my friend somehow for going out of her way to get me somewhere and help me out.

It's a little sticky because she technically IS my boss and I always thought getting someone a gift at work and not everyone else was a little strange... unless they were leaving the job or something.

Any suggestions for something simple and classy when I do decide to take this other job?

I would imagine that something to the effect of "Thank you for helping me out while I looked for a fulltime position. You threw me a life line when I need it!" or something like that. If you're getting her a gift, and feel funny about giving it in front of everyone else, give her a box of chocolates or flowers - something that everyone will enjoy somewhat.

It's the thought that counts!
