Distortions in the news at ATO Rose-Hulman
(What a story: The only GLO mentioned is ATO, but only one person was an ATO member. 23 of the arrestees were not students on the campus. The parking lot runs in front of three or four GLOs, incl. LXA, ATO, and Triangle. Perhaps these non-students and minors were taking advantage of the beer vending maching in the Triangle house, which I saw last summer and which was discussed in quantity here.)
Underage Drinking Task Force cites 41 minors at Rose-Hulman
The Vigo County Sheriff's Department cited 41 minors Friday for underage drinking at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Project 21 Underage Drinking Taskforce deputies arrived at the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house on campus after they received a dispatch call. When deputies arrived, they found minors on a parking lot near the fraternity house who had consumed alcohol. Vigo County Sheriff Jon R. Marvel said in a news release.
Of the 41 cited, 18 were RHIT students and only one was an ATO member, said Pete Gustafson, Rose-Hulman dean of students.
Gustafson said the incident will be investigated but disciplinary actions cannot be released publicly.
Fraternity members were cooperative with police and helped locate other minors who were drinking, Marvel said.
In an incident unrelated to the arrests at Rose-Hulman, the task force arrested an 18-year-old female for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Marvel said the task force will increase enforcement during upcoming proms and graduations.
Project 21 Underage Drinking Taskforce is funded through a grant from the Vigo County Local Coordinating Council. Anyone with information about underage drinking may call the Sheriff's Department or Crime Stoppers.
