Yes,I agree. I like your idea of the alpha lambda and then the initiated chapter designation.

ADPi AIs are typically initiated into the Omega Alpha chapter (I got to see three AI's at Convention in June!), but I think that exceptions to this can be made (not entirely sure, however).

Alpha Xi Delta AIs are initiates of the chapter that initates them. Unless they're initiated at Convention -- then their chapter designation is Alpha Deuteron.

Alpha Xi Delta kind of does it both ways ... if you are initiated at a college chapter than you are a member of that chapter. If you are initiated at convention (we had 4 this summer) than you are a member of the national chapter which is designated as Alpha Deuteron.

I'm not lovin' the idea of an "AI" designated chapter (Alpha Phi does this and so does Alpha Delta Pi -- this is only provided as information and is not intended as anything other than such).

As we have seen, sometimes, AI's run into women who are a bit "funny" about the whole AI issue and don't consider AIs to be "real" sisters, since they didn't join in college, and being assigned a chapter with no real "geographic designation" doesn't really help matters in terms of being perceived as a true, initiated sister, know what I mean?

Whereas, when you are initiated and are designated a collegiate chapters "call letters", no one has to know how or when you were initiated, unless you actually tell them.

I guess I just prefer a lower stress life and not having to explain myself to people all the time. Shrug.

To answer your original question, I would prefer to be affiliated with the collegiate chapter that initiated me.

In Gamma Phi Beta, AIs are initiated with the collegiate chapter which sponsors them, which is most often the chapter which is the closest geographically. In my case, I "wasn't allowed" to initiate with the Long Beach State chapter, or my Big Sister's chapter at University of Southern California. I was initiated into the University of San Diego chapter because it's just down the road from my house.

I also prefer having a collegiate chapter designation. I'm not sure I would be keen on an AI designation or dual-designation. Though, when looking at a list of Alpha Phis, it's always cool because I can easily spot all of the AIs!
