The
Extreme Measures Tour is this semester's Panhellenic programming event at UT; it is a national speaking tour about body image. An Alpha Phi sister is the campus campaign director for the UT event.
The Extreme Measures Campus Tour is visiting campuses across the country to heighten awareness about the tricks we sometimes see in the mirror.
The tour features two college-aged women, an eating disorder survivor and a cosmetic surgery disaster survivor, who will talk about the whole picture – including their experiences with body image issues, obsessions with the scale, going under the knife, hidden health care costs, getting sick, and getting better.
They have also been to American University, FIT, Rutgers, SMU and they are going to UT-Dallas, Texas A&M, U of Houston, George Washington, Southrern California, CSU Long Beach.

Did you know that in the last year, more than 300,000 teenage women received some sort of cosmetic surgery procedure. Did you also know more than 90% of young women on college campuses have dieted at some point in their lives? What does any of this matter? In an era of “The Swan,” “Dr. 90210,” and other television shows promoting the importance of an impeccable physical appearance, young women are increasingly feeling pressure to look a certain way, and that pressure is causing many of them to take risky steps in order to look and be “perfect.” In order to address these startling trends, the
National Council of Women’s Organizations (NCWO) and the
Eating Disorders Coalition (EDC) have created The Extreme Measures Tour.
The Extreme Measures Tour is a speaking tour focused on young women and body image issues, featuring two women in their early 20s whose lives were almost lost because of the extreme actions they took to look a certain way. One has survived devastating medical consequences from her plastic surgery; the other has survived both anorexia and bulimia. The tour also features an expert on body image issues who discusses how and where to get help, should you or someone you know be struggling with similar problems.
