7 GLO Pins on Ebay

A seller on ebay is selling these GORGEOUS GLO pins on ebay. This was first discussed on the adpi forum but the pins are so pretty that I had to share them with everyone. They all still have 9 days left but most of them are already over $150.

Here's the seller's page http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZlottsQ2dofQ2dstuff

He has a diamond Phi Delt pin, diamond SAE pin (looks like an old one since its not like the SAE pins I've seen), diamond Theta pin, Opal/Ruby adpi pin, KKG pin, and some other GLO that doesnt look familiar. Anyone know what it is? Whoever owned this must have had a large amount of money to spend on some beautiful pins.

AHHHHHHH!! All the pins are gorgeous, but I hope Keepers of the Key find the Kappa pin and get it!! (Thankfully, SquirrelGirl already did a little posty post post in the Kappa thread when she found this pin as well!!)

It's amazing how little regard these eBay people have for the importance of our badges and what they represent. It's like they'll do anything to make a buck... and I still don't understand what purpose some random person has for the badges of our GLOs!! In a perfect world, all of these badges would end up in the hands of their nationals.

And this seller is a joke!! They wrote "I hope that I translated the Greek letters correctly, so if I have made a mistake, please email me the correction..." and then referred to some of the letters on the Kappa pin as "Alpha Omega Omakron"... what's an omakron?!

Okay, I think I'm done ranting now... maybe...

I was wondering if I was the only one to notice that little typo. I mean yea right oma K ron. Like he doesnt know what he is selling. And, so far the price has gone up due to other "collectors" not sisters or brothers of the organization. I mean the price went from $55 to $202 in 24 hours because of collectors (the adpi pin i mean).

I don't mind seeing my pin for sell . . .well I don't like it but I like to think it gives some sisters a chance to get a good deal on a special pin but I hate seeing collectors get it for a song so I HOPE THEY PAY THROUGH THE NOSE for something that actually belongs to nationals and not some schmo.

As I posted in our Forum, I was bidding on an ADPi pin from my chapter, and even though the seller wouldn't tell me the name or initials, I had the feeling it had belonged to a client of mine. It was from 1927, had the right amount of pearls and type of guard. I had worn my pin to visit her once, and she had told me how she had lost her pin so many years ago. When I told her about this pin on ebay, she was excited, and said that she would LOVE for me to have it.

I lost the auction - even though I bid high enough to guarantee packed lunches for a couple months! I was SO ANGRY, because there is no way that a collector could EVER understand or enjoy that pin as much as a member of a GLO could.

After many drafts (and noticing this collector's bad rating), I emailed via ebay: "I hope that you can enjoy and respect this pin ONE TENTH as much as the person who was trying to return it to its original owner." Not truly nasty, but something I could live with. (The original draft mentioned how very sharp those points are, how every ADPi gets a few sharp scratches from her pin, and what part of her anatomy... you get the drift.)

And then I emailed the seller, and asked him to please contact me if the buyer doesn't come through. Not quite as cathartic as I would have liked, but I was trying to keep in mind who and what I represented.

Bottom line: To collectors, they're just shiny baubles. To a GLO member, they're so much more. (I just needed to vent!)

honeychile, that last line is very true......mad props to you and God Bless.....

I think that the phrase "You go girl" would be logical at this time..

Way to go!

I wish that I could afford to buy my org's badges. Wish I could take the Ritual book and bop it over the head of the seller but I guess that wouldn't be a good thing to do.

another perspective on collecting

Good luck to those bidding on the vintage pins. While many have discussed the motives of these these seemingly devious pin collectors, I also don't understand the anger toward pin collectors--- there are many pin collectors who are Greeks, or they're just antique lovers who are appreciative of beautiful vintage jewelry. What's so horrible about that, especially if the pin ended up on Ebay because it was lost or a decedent didn't make plans to pass it down in the family or send it back to HQ... shouldn't the anger be directed at that irresponsible Greek, and not someone who is acquiring a collection of pins? Should stamp collectors be deprived their habit because used stamps should be returned to the post office?

To each his own, and again, best of luck to those bidding. My own uncle is a GLO alumnus and is an antiques dealer. He makes his living shopping at estate sales, appraising and selling vintage items. I'm proud of him for being passionate about his career and that he brings beautiful things to other people.

It's really all perspective. I am not big on pin collecting, but again to each his own. While I am pinching my dollars these days, I do hope one day to make a sizable contribution to the ADPi Foundation, to support our ongoing programs-- the living and breathing part behind the pin.
