Question for those who are into community service

Is it easier for you to devote a lot of time and energy to serve people you don't know, than to serve those you DO know?

Yes. My friends are complete dicks. If I showed compassion even a little, I think they'd take that as a sign of weakness and pummel me.

Yes.

Since I'm close to my friends/the people I know, if they're not receptive to my time and energy, or if they don't provide me w/ what I need to help them, I get frustrated more easily than with someone I don't know. It's like I take it to heart more easily w/ my friends.

Does that make sense? I think Mr. AXiD670 once explained it as I'm too close to them to be working w/ them in that capacity.

I like working in communities in the mid-state although I also do foundation work. I really love working in my own community so that I can see the benefits/results of my service...even if that service is done anonomously (sp?).
