So what do you tell your boss?

When they come in and see you dicking around on GC at work? My old boss could recognize GC from 100 yards. She thought it was email tho.

I never say anything...just hopes she thinks it's e-mail and then I click on an actual work window and try to play cool. She's never said anything...

How about...

You wanted some help or had a question about Excel (Word, Access, or whatever) so you posted a message and you're checking to see if anyone responded. Thought it would be faster then calling tech support/help desk/or whatever and you knew there were a few "experts" on the board!

When I work in my office I usually don't have to worry about my boss or co-workers seeing me playing around on GC or any other web site. When I work in the Test Lab I absolutely don't even get on other web sites. I sit with my back to most of the room & don't want to even risk it.

As long as I'm getting work done and not discussing confidential information, no one really cares.

I am facing the door so I can switch to another screen if the principal comes in! I'm not sure she would know what I was doing even if she saw it.

I only ever get on GC during work hours if I'm telecommuting. The boss can't see my screen if I'm a two-hour drive away.

If this is not an option, Alt-Tab is your friend.

yeah exactly - as long as the NDA is intact and I'm on deadline, no one cares in the slightest

My boss uses GC too, and most of her best friends. I guess it's a good thing she is Greek. And everyone else in this little office uses at least some type of message board regularly so most of them pass by and recognize the layout.

my boss never comes out of his office and when he does he could care less if I have my feet up on my desk. As long as I do my job during the day he could care less. The last office manager talked on the phone all day and never did work so I am ahuge improvement they tell me.

Sometimes when there is no work to do and my boss knows it... I don't think she really cares. Actually I asked a question about my MAC here and got a response quicker than I would have if I asked our resident tech... who's a PC guru.

Other times I am sitting on projects because they are out proofing and I can't do anything about them until I get them back... so... why sit there and twiddle my thumbs?
