OSU frat member wrongly listed as sex offender in criminal prank

CORVALLIS -- A former Oregon State University fraternity house member listed a frat brother as a sex offender in forged documents sent to hundreds of OSU students, authorities said.

Cyrus Sullivan, 21, was arrested on Monday, said Lt. Greg Ridler with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. Sullivan was being held at Benton County Jail and faces two felony forgery counts.

“I think this crossed the line in terms of being a college prank…it went a little bit overboard,” Ridler said.

The releases listed a current Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity member as having molested a 15-year-old.

No current member of that fraternity has ever been convicted of a crime, according to school officials.

The forged criminal sex offender release notifications contained the official state seal and were sent to every fraternity and sorority house on campus, authorities said.

Sullivan had been kicked out of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. It was unclear when that occurred and what the reason was.

He allegedly sent out another mailing which advertised an STD clinic at the frat house and contained pictures of current members next to fictitious testimonials.

One such testimonial reads: In addition to free testing the clinic provides me with free condoms whenever I need them making my daily routines cleaner and easier to manage.

“This is not a prank, this is hurting people,” said Kappa Epsilon fraternity member Dustin Guest.

Sullivan is also on probation for a previous offense in Multnomah County which police described as an attack on a public safety officer.
