Big Brothers/Pledge Fathers

I was just wondering what you guys thought about having the new pledges pick their big brothers/pledge fathers (what do you guys call them? Here at BU they are Pledge Fathers). Supposedly, we are one of the few that have the GMC and Pledge Ed pick the pledge fathers for the pledges. Is it better to have it the other way around? Wondering what you guys thought.

At our chapter we have big brothers and Alumni big brothers. What happens is, the pledges get to pick three (first choice, second choice, etc.) guys that they would want as their big bro, then the officers and pledge educator will decide, based on the pledges choices, who would be the best match. On the alumni big bros, usually the involved alumni choose who there little bro is then the rest will be assigned by the officers. Thats what we do, we find it works well.

Hope you don't mind a chick putting in her 2 cents.

When I pledged littles were chosen by seniority - which sisters were the oldest and still didn't have littles - and the pledges had no say in it. The next year we changed it so that the pledges wrote down the top 3 they wanted, and the sisters interested in taking littles wrote down the top 3 they wanted. That worked really well.

I know the one fraternity I hung out with, the little bro's picked their big bro's, but the only problem with that is they might not have any idea that the guy already has 2 littles.

We have Big Bros here as well. We just have them list there top few choices and then the pledge educators actually pick who goes with who, from the list usually. Peace out!
