Compassionate Conservative Alan Keyes kicked his lesbian daughter out of his house
Alan Keyes' daughter is Coming Out
Quote:
Featuring Maya Marcel-Keyes, daughter of Alan Keyes and a self-described young queer anarchist who grew up in Darnestown, MD. Maya is speaking publicly for the first time about LGBT issues.
Maya Marcel Keyes, the self-described queer activist who is also daughter of ultra-conservative Alan Keyes, whose recent campaign for senator from Illinois included his calling Mary Cheney a "hedonist." Maya group up in Montgomery County and will certainly have some interesting things to say about living with someone who is so outspoken in his opposition to gay rights.

And now that she is coming out, he cut her off:

They say that I'm a good daughter, that I changed around my whole plans just because I thought it would be nicer for my dad if after the end of working all the time on the campaign trail he could come back to someone who loves him rather than an empty house. They say that it should be a source of pride, not of shame, for my parents that I'm so passionate about my beliefs, and work for what I believe in; even if they are not the beliefs my parents hold. They say that the only possible cause for shame anywhere in the whole situation is in the fact that after all this I am being cut off, jobless, soon to be homeless, and that although I have intelligence and motivation I won't be able to go to Brown after all because I have no money.
So my Anjuls say.
My parents say otherwise.

Now, if we could just get her Dad to run for President while condemning his daughter (now he's got something in common with Dick Cheney besides radical right wing beliefs!)

Can you please stop with that BS? Dick Cheney has a great relationship with his daughter and she was quite involved in his election campaign.

I didn't realize that supporting gay marriage is so radical right wing

Right-wing's conservative. Dick and Alan are right-wing because they both are uptight assholes.
It doesn't matter if they don't agree with homosexuality, but their daughters are both gay. You'd think they'd come around after having lesbians so close to them.
I don't believe either one truly love their daughters, and I pity these women for being stuck in between a rocky situation and hard-head. They're trying the best they can.
Props to Maya and Mary for staying strong!

Brown is the ghetto ivy league school.
If they are really that intelligent and motivated they would have no problem getting into any school they want. Sounds more like a 'pity me' pep rally than anything.

I'm not sure where you get that Cheney doesn't love his daughter - I think that's a stretch, especially since he's supported her whenever I've heard him speak of her. From all appearances, as has been mentioned, they have a great relationship.
Also...why are all conservatives "uptight assholes?" Seems like an unfair characterization.

Uh, Cheney has been outspoken AGAINST banning gay marriage, breaking Rupublican party line and Bush's own platform, precisely because he loves his daughter. Hence, my post.
read->comprehend->post
Also, the "uptight assholes" bit is tres classy - keep that up, you'll go far.

Dick Cheney has been very supportive of Mary. So, let's leave him out of this.
Doesn't Alan Keyes's daughter know that her father is a raging homophobe and that posting pictures of her making out with another girl and sporting lots of rainbow paraphernalia isn't necessarily the most prudent thing to do?
After reading a little more about this, I guess she was in college for a year, her parents found out about her lifestyle, took her out for a year to "work on the campaign," and now she's unsure about whether or not they'll continue to pay $40,000 a year for her to continue to live a "hedonist" lifestyle.
Frankly, I'm not very surprised.

I think "outspoken" may be a little strong, but he has broken with the party and has shown considerable support for his daughter.

Why drop in the semantic argument? You know about his views because he made them public; that defines 'outspoken', no? Let's not get into a connotation war over something that I only brought up to show how irrelevant it is to the thread.

Yeah, it's the dyke's goddamn fault for being herself instead of living a fucking lie.

Simply because I think he was supportive more by his silence toward the party line than by being outspoken. An opinion. Happy to drop it.

Wow. I don't think that's what Munchkin03 was saying at all. I think she was saying (correct me if I'm wrong), that the daughter shouldn't be surprised by her father's actions. Nowhere did she say that it is his daughter's "fault" for anything.

No, it's not her fault for living her life as she chooses - you're being hypersensitive here. It's her fault for expecting that her bigoted father would somehow react in any fashion other than the way he did. The guy's a douche, and if she expected him to continue to pay for her schooling . . . well, it's probably better she get the wake-up call now.
