Sigma Nu Commander Passes Away
Frank Yancey
Frank Yancey, 71, of Monroe, formerly of Decatur, died August 1, 2005. A native of Tallapoosa, Ga, he graduated from Howard College where he was a teammate of F.S.U. coach Bobby Bowdon and was commander of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He later graduated from Jacksonville State University. He taught and coached football at Towers High School and later was a member of the coaching staff at Southwest DeKalb High School during their 1995 state championship year. He was a member of the Monroe Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held August 3, in the Monroe First Baptist Church. The Rev. Glen H. Money officiated. Entombment was in Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville, Ga. Pallbearers were Buddy Leach, Bill George, Joel Stephens, Floyd Bennett, Scott Wright and Robert L. (Bobby) Cox, Jr.
Surviving are his widow: Elizabeth (Betsy) Cates Yancey; Daughter: Ann Yancey of Decatur; stepchildren: Robert T. (Bobby) Cox, Jr. of Monroe and Julie and Scott Wright of Monroe; nieces and nephews.
He was married to the former Patricia Jean Yancey until her death.
