Grammys
That opening was incredible!!!
Alica Keys and Jamie Foxx I got chills on that one.
I am really liking the show so far. Best awards show I have seen in awhile.

WEST COAST PEOPLE, DO NOT READ THIS!!!!!!!!
Alicia and Jamie - I was very surprised that I enjoyed the performance, because I generally don't like Jamie.
Kayne West/Mavis Staples/John Legend/Five Blind Boys of Alabama -- I absolutely hated the entire thing. I don't like Kanye as a rapper first of all. I thought the church scene could have gone in a better direction -- the choreography was horrid and seemed thrown together. Although I don't generally like the sound of John Legend's voice, I appreciated his performance. On the other hand, one of the Five Blind Boys sounded absolutely dreadful, like nails on a blackboard. Mavis Staples was adequate, but there were several times that she sounded like Weezie Jefferson.
Joss Stone and Melissa Etheridge -- brilliant. LOVED THEM. I wasn't quite sure if Joss was trying to steal the second song though, Melissa was looking at her kind of sideways. Also, I know that Melissa is battling cancer, so I appreciated the fact that she was rocking the bald head with not a second thought.
Kevin Bacon looked weird, but kind of cute. Ludacris was a little overdressed or something.
Adam Sandler and Nelly presented the award for best R&B performance and Prince won. As usual, he wasn't there. Nelly accepted the award on his behalf and said "Well, Prince isn't here, so....oooooo-oooooo!!!" (He did the Prince call -- I almost died laughing.)
Is it just me, or is Queen Latifah getting her bosoms back?
U2 was okay, but I wasn't paying close atention.
I changed the channel because I have a short attention span.

All of the performances have been top notch...with the exception of Jennifer Lopez and Mark Anthony, they were low key compared to the others. Definitely the best awards show in a long time.

Man, that was the most boring performance I have ever seen. I LOVED, LOVED Alicia & Jamie's performance. To me, it was the best of the night. I think overall the Grammy's really weren't great this year.

Yeah, she does look like she gained a few pounds back.

I LOVED Star's dress during the red carpet preshow on E. But then she changed into the pants and halter...... It was ok, but not as HOT as that pink! Why did she change? Just to prove she could. At least Galicia looked more like a boy in the background, with his short hair. But why did he stay on his phone the whole time? And why was he were he could be seen in almost every shot? Is that so she can keep an eye on him????
Ps, Latifah is doing a great job hosting. her perforamnce was FAB-TASTIC.

My controversial quote of the day, I think Ray Charles won his award because he passed away recently. I hate it when these awards committees realize that someone who has really contributed a lot to their art/craft have never been awarded or nominated for their past work so they give them an award for something recent because they want to overall honor their contributions now that they have wised up. its pathetic in my opinion. usually it takes an artist to die for that recognition, and this year it was ray charles that was recognized. last year, it was Joe Strummer of the Clash.

I pretty much agreed with Senusret I's assessment. I absolutely LOVED that Green Day won a Grammy - you could kind of tell they were a little uncomfortable about getting that kind of validation, still, it was sweet to see my pick for Best Album of 2004 win an award.
And yeah, I think La is getting her bosoms back. She said she missed them. I absolutely *loved* that short black dress she wore during her performance! I want that dress!
JLo and Mark Anthony was the equivalent of the "bathroom break song" that happens at every concert.
I almost cried when I saw Melissa Etheridge walk out on that stage bald as a cueball. I'm so glad she's doing well, and I'm glad she's not trying to hide the fact that she's battling breast cancer. Go 'head, Melissa!

J.Lo was awful. Mark Anthony sounded good but J.Lo had a hard time staying on key. I was waiting for Simon Cowell to come onstage and say, "That was dreadful. You are the worst singer I have ever heard."

I watched the entire show this year for a change.
I agree with much of what has been said, although while I am not a J-Lo fan at all, I thought their performance was OK -- but certainly different from the rest of the show. The pace itself of the song was enough to bring things to almost a halt.
I thought the gospel segment suffered from lack of consistency more than anything else.
While a decent idea, the Tsunami Relief segment was totally average -- nowhere close to "We Are The World" which seems to have become the benchmark for these things.
I don't know how noticable it was to anyone but me, but there was a fairly different "look" to the show this year due to a changing of the guard on the TV side. Pierre Cossette, who has been Executive Producer of the show for many years is handing over the reigns. This year he was Co-EP with Ken Ehrends (Don't think that's spelled correctly, which bothers me because he's a fellow Ohio U. grad) who is EP of the Oscars, I think. Also, Walter C. Miller, who had directed a lot of country music specials and other big projects was the Producer Director. (His son Paul -- who I think has done the Grammy's before and did at least one season of American Idle, oh I mean Idol -- is also an O.U. grad and a classmate of mine)
They tried some stuff, only some of which worked. The stark white background on the U2 piece ruined the flesh tones which is no surprize. TV cameras don't work all that well with that much white.
Other than that, I thought the graphics were inconsistent. But it will take the new team a while to get it together I suppose.

I think Hillary won a Grammy a few years ago but I'm pretty sure this was Bill's first Grammy.

I agree that the J.Lo/Mark Anthony duet was horrible. She was so off key. It was like a bad Spanish soap opera/musical. Kayne's performance was over the top too. I liked Queen's song, the Janis tribute, Alicia's performance, and Usher & James Brown.

WOW! I actually agree with you on this. You would think they would have done this before for such a great artist but instead, they only do it after his death & lo and behold, he wins a plethora of awards. What a load of bullshit in my opinion. They should have recognized him years ago instead of waiting for his death & movie.
