Chaplain's duties?

Just a question...what role does your chaplain play in your chapter? Ours currently reads the weather at the meeting and has an inspirational quote. However, after talking to her today, I get the sense that she wants to take a more "counselor"ish role with the girls, and I think she'd be great at it. I was just wondering what sort of activities/role your chaplain plays in your chapter.

All chapters of my Christian service club, Kappa Phi have a chaplain as an executive position. She leads the group in prayer, puts together studies and devotionals, shares inspirational poems, and also assumes the counselor role as well. As a faith based group, chaplaincy is a position that is one of the most important and is taken very seriously. Women who wish to be elected chaplain need to be totally selfless and willing to meet with any sister, anytime, any place, and listen to whatever she may be concerned about. It's no longer about you, it's about you being an open ear to the women of the chapter. Hope this helps.

Your Chaplain reads the weather? I had never heard of anything like that before. But to each her own...

One way for your Chaplain to become more involved is for her to plan events (such as Bible studies, group outings to Praise and Worship events and the like, or swaps with other religious organizations [Jocelyn put it very well]).

I am sure that if you just get the word out (in meeting would probably be good) that the Chaplain is someone to listen to and counsel other sisters, other girls would start going to her as someone to talk to. You might also want to amend your bylaws to include the newly defined duties of Chaplain.
