Kappa Delta- Blue Bracelets for Prevent Child Abuse America
Learned about our newest philanthropy effort:
"Beginning in Spring 2005, PCA America will be launching a national blue wrist band campaign to raise awareness of, and funding for, its leading child abuse prevention efforts. Kappa Delta collegiate chapters and alumnae associations across the country will be taking aprimary lead in selling these wrist bands as either part of annual Shamrock Events or separately. By selling bands in local communities, Kappa Deltas will be participating in a nationwide campaign that will include national print advertising, spokespeople - NBA All-Star Grant Hill and his wife, R&B vocalist Tamia - and potentially major retailers partners. The bands will be sold for $1.00 each and are expected to arrive the first week of March. In fact, the first shipment of bands has been reserved specifically for Kappa Delta to promote and sell, making Kappa Delta the first group selling these bands in the country. "
Hopefully it does well, however, I do wish it was maybe something different than a mimick of the Live Strong bracelets

That's awesome! It makes me doubly happy because PCAA is our philanthropy, too.

I wonder if we are going to be getting them to sell we were thinking of trying to do something like that. We have some big plans (well big for us) in the works for April (National Prevent Childhood Abuse Month).

Kudos to Kappa Delta for being in the lead on this...should be some great publicity for them.
However, I kinda wish that there weren't so many "copies" of the LiveStrong bracelets. To me it takes a little bit of the meaning out of them. So far I've seen pink ones (breast cancer) and green ones (support the troops). But I am a HUGE Lance Armstrong fan, so I'm kinda biased!!

i have heard a lot of people saying how they dont like the livestrong knockoffs either. i think it is kinda cool that people have found something that works and is using to make money for charities and good causes. when i see a different bracelet for a cause i usually buy one seeing as how they are usually very cheap. i do see why people dont like them when you see the ones that say "Miller time. Good call", but i have one of those too, i think they're fun.

It's the same as having ribbons for every single cause on the earth and getting to the point where no one has any idea what the colors mean anymore.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation already does blue bands like this that say "Breathe" in support of Cystic Fibrosis. I understand what you mean 33...who knows what the colors are anymore!!! I do have a Lance one and a pink for breast cancer.

Someone once mentioned in a meeting or something getting pink Phi Mu bracelets made. It pisses me off cuz these bracelets started off to have a meaning and a purpose, not just for fashion. I have a blue one for UofM's Mott Hospital, and I just ordered my Livestrong one because my aunt has cancer. I just can't believe that people are making these bracelets for whatever reason, or that children are asking for them because they are "in style". (< read that in an article somewhere a while back)
Sorry for the hijack.

I work at a jewelry store that sells italian charms, and we have ribbon charms in all the colors. Weave to have a cheat sheet to know what the different colors stand for there's so many. Different causes jumping on the wristband band wagon doesn't really bother me, the other random ones bother me though.

Alpha Phi introduced Red bracelets in January to support cardiac care. While I might agree the number of bracelets are overwhleming I know I had a security guard in the airport ask about mine and it made me feel like hmmm I may be raising awareness. So if they work I am all for it!
