Couldnt he have just poured the non-frozen beer onto the snow and accomplished the same thing?
Could one person consume 30 liters (60 half liters) of beer and still survive?

consider it like this: put an ice cube in a glass of ice tea and it does not melt very fast as the temp of the tea is low.
Put an ice cube in a mug of regular tea and it melts quickly as the temp is high.
More snow can be melted with warm pee than with cold beer even if the amount of liquids are equal due to heat transfer.

As my brother likes to say, "you don't drink beer, you just recycle it".

Probably an urban legend, although snopes.com neither confirms nor denies this.
Aside from the temperature thing though, you can get more liquid by consuming the beer rather than just pouring it out because you pee out more than you drink when it comes to alcohol. That's why it dehydrates you. But I don't personally believe this story is true.

That man is my idol. He deserves some kind of Nobel prize...
or a free truck of beer.
