Sigma Chi Suspends Cal State-Chico Chapter

Sigma Chi has suspended its chapter at California State University-Chico for at least 45 days. A 19-year-old pledge -- or maybe he was not a pledge; there are conflicting statements in one of the student paper's articles -- nearly died from alcohol poisoning (blood alcohol 0.496).

There are a couple of stories in the Jan. 26 issue of the school paper, The Orion Online

And there's a statement on the Sigma Chi national web site

"We're going to use it as an opportunity to evaluate ourselves and take steps to make sure this will never happen again," Peltz said."

Good to see a group acting as adults and taking responsibility instead of the sometimes seen "circle the wagons" attitude.

Agreed. A follow-up article says they're planning to do some alcohol awareness and CPR training. Teaching others how to respond and act if someone has alcohol poisoning sounds like a good idea.
