WHAT: Not One Damn Dime Day--a 24-hour consumer boycott for peace in Iraq
WHEN: Inauguration Day--Thursday, January 20, 2005
WHERE: Across the U.S.
FYI: On "Not One Damn Dime Day" those who oppose the war in Iraq can speak up with a 24-hour national boycott of all forms of consumer spending.
Please boycott Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target... don't go to the mall or local convenience store. Please don't buy gasoline, fast food (or any groceries for that matter), necessities or impulse purchases. For 24 hours, please do what you can to shut the retail economy down.
On "Not One Damn Dime Day" you take action by doing nothing. You open your mouth by keeping your wallet closed. For 24 hours, nothing gets spent, not one damn dime, to remind our leaders of their moral responsibility to end the war in Iraq and give America back to the people.

Why punish business (and our economy) for something (the war) that is mainly a function of government?

This makes no sense.

Don't pay a days worth of taxes or something, but this impacts all of us -- whether in favor of the conflict or not.

Well, the purpose of government in the current era seems to be to make sure the economy prospers, so punishing the economy for something the government does seems to be one in the same to some people.

Inauguration day happens to be the day before pay day, when there isn't a dime to spend in my wallet. Every other Thursday is one of those days for me, I think.

Anyway, I agree with DA. This only hurts business owners.

Business owners? What are business owners? Perhaps it is people. It is people that have shares of large corporations in their investments. It is people that buy up bonds and debt of corporations and businesses. It is people that have their retirement accounts, IRAs, and 401Ks invested in the stocks and bonds of other businesses.

I'm always amazed at what kind of "people" come up with these brilliant ideas. And you know what disappoints me the most? That they're American. I can deal with them being from any other country...but why do they always have to be American? They're probably American in this case too.

Bad idea. I may not agree with the war but I think this form of protest is too extreme (and stupid).

They were talking about this last night on Hannity and Colmes. I think the whole thing is absurd and an unecessary way to get their voices heard. I understand that some people are against the war and have their right to express thier opinions but isn't that what they just did in the election?
