I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan, but I do enjoy watching the games. I was a Hartford Whalers fan back in the day (I grew up in the burbs in CT), but after they left I never really picked up another team. Now I follow the Bruins a bit, and I keep up with things as the season progresses.

Of course you're not the only NHL fan here! It's one of the best sports in the world, where else can you find so many elements of different sports all wrapped into one? And where else can someone, aka moi, be a fan of the worst team in the NHL and the best in the AHL while they are still part of the same franchise? Gotta love the Penguins!

Someone else who watches the AHL!!! Too cool. I am an Admirals' fan. WB/S is kicking butt. I don't understand why more players have not been called up to play for the struggling Penguins.
BTW, what haapened with Thibault? I know they put him on waivers. Rumor has it that he refused to be sent down to the AHL, but refused to go. Do you know any more than that?

Been a hockey fan for about 5 years now. Started watching while we lived in Pittsburgh and got hooked here in Columbus. Now we own a PSL in Nationwide and go to around 20 games/year.

I used to catch AHL games in CT. After the Whalers left, it was really the only pro game in town worth seeing.

Big night Tues. in Atlanta:
For the first time in nearly two years, the Hawks and Thrashers both won on the same night.
Then we wake up Wed. and find out the Braves are for sale.

I started watching NHL in college [i feel so old] and if I had to pick a team, I would pick Montreal, just because I followed them one year and it seems like a natural choice, the local team being minor league.
What is the AHL? American Hockey Leuge I would guess. How is Pittsburgh in both? How does that work? Do they play in a world championship?
Also, North America vs. The World is one the things I look forward to most in sports, along with superbowl. It has vice super bowl importance.

the whole thing with not calling more people up is because of the money issue, a bunch of people on the team are ONLY NHL and cant be sent down or else they loose a lot of money that they dont have. They brought up 3 of our best players at the begining of the year and have kept them. As for Thibault, he was officially sent down but refused to actually go to WB so they just brought him back after a few days.

The AHL is indeed the American Hockey League, even though there are Canadian teams in it as well. It is the minor league system for the NHL. Alot of cities have two teams an AHL team and an NHL team. The Leafs just moved their AHL team from St John's Newfoundland to Toronto, it makes it easier if you have to call up a player in an emergency.
