10 Delicious Reasons to Celebrate Single Life

We are a society obsessed with coupling. Like peas and carrots, two people must find each other, realize their tastes mesh, and then live happily ever after. A growing number of companies bent on playing Cupid are raking in millions based on this eternal idea. And that’s OK. If we are to progress as a people, some of us have got to get together.

Still, there’s a widespread mentality that believes single people are some unlucky individuals who are so because they have yet to find "the one." There is an assumption that these lowly, lonely folks aren’t as happy as their hitched-up counterparts. Even if that’s a little true, you can’t knock the benefits of an unattached lifestyle. To all of you single folks, quit your groaning about the love you don’t have, and celebrate the advantages you’ve got today.

We asked a select group of men and women what they love about being single. Here are their responses. Take a look, and then share your thoughts on the single life.

1. You always get to choose the movie. You’re not forced to sit through tearjerkers or pointless, shoot-’em-up flicks. It’s your dime and your time.

2. You have more time for friends. Let’s be honest: Friendships tend to go south when one friend hooks up. As a single person, you can have quality time with your buddies and not feel like you’re neglecting anyone.

3. You can be greedy. No one cares if you indulge in another piece of pound cake.

4. One less Christmas gift to buy. Let out a sigh of stress relief. You don’t have to trudge through the malls or worry about what to buy a significant other. Heck, go buy yourself something nice.

5. Your time is your own. You can up and go as you please, without rearranging your schedule to fit someone else’s. And “me time” is any time.

6. No “genderspeak” to decipher. What did he mean by that? Where is she coming from? Not your problem!

7. The toilet seat is always down. And no one cares if it’s up, either.

8. The dating scene is your box of chocolates. You can freely sample all the dating world has to offer without having to make a commitment to one person.

9. You get to have meaningless sex. Well, yeah. You can enjoy no-strings attached, I’m-out-before-the-break-of-dawn sex.

10. You can party hearty. Feel free to go out clubbing as much as you want without having to call and check in.
