Well at my chapter of AOII, we are not allowed to have any socials at our house. Actually, I am pretty sure all AOII houses/lodges/dorms must stay "dry" with no socials, parties, etc.

At Nu Beta we usually have our socials at a bar or restaurant in Oxford, MS. Then once a school year the fall formal is in Memphis, TN. For all socials we take buses to a from the social event, whether it is one mile away or in Memphis, TN. For our social in Memphis, TN each year the Exec. Board has to approve it. For fall formal we do not spend the night there, just go to Memphis at approved restaurants and then go to the formal. This year it was on Mud Island in Memphis, TN.

As far as ideas goes here are a few:

1. Mi Tie Party--you and your date both wear the same tie
2. Secs & Execs Swap--Secretaries and Executives Swap
3. Barbie Meets GI Joe Swap
4. Red Light, Green Light Swap--everyone who is single wears green, everyone who is not sure of their relationship status wears yellow, everyone who is taken wears red
5. Grab-A-Date--Have a surprise date party and tell everyone the day of where it is and what time and they have to "grab" a date!
6. Graffiti Swap--everyone wears white tee shirts and then everyone writes on each other, but one rule is nothing sexual and nothing with AOII on it!
7. Famous Duo's Swap--the fraternity and the sorority pair up each couple dresses up as a famous duo, like Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston, it can be a famous celebrity couple, a historical couple, a fiction couple, etc.
8. The Wedding Swap--the guys dress like groomsmen and the girls dress like bridesmaids and the sorority and the fraternity pick a real bride/groom couple and they have a ceremony at the party
9. Prom Disaster Swap--everyone wears freaky, tacky prom clothes
10. Cowboys and Cowgirls
11. Varsity Swap---wear football jerseys, cheerleading outfits, etc
12. Country Club Swap--everyone dresses up like they are going to the country club
13. Medicine Swap--dress like doctors and nurses
14. Fourth of July Swap--everyone dresses up like Betsy Ross, the founding fathers, wears red, white & blue, etc (no fire works of course)

Obviously, there are different versions of each one mentioned. These are just ideas and some that we have done at Ole Miss.

Just FYI - an AOII house must be "dry" at all times but you can have events like socials at a property as long as no alcohol is present or part of the event.

Several chapters do have events like this so they have the opportunity to 'host' everyso often (like a board games night). As for policies, it can depend on what the Corporation/chapter has agreed to in terms of use of the property, as well as any campus policies that may be in effect.

Just remember - any event you have alcohol at can be done without alcohol just as easily!

Hope that helps!!
