2004-2005 NCAA football Preview
How are your NCAA football teams shaping up for next year?
In D-IA, I went to see Oklahoma's Spring game. They have some amazing talent returning as well as some impressive new talent. Lance Mitchell, who until his injury was regarded as the best LB on the team (2nd best was Butkus winner Teddy Lehman) is back from his ACL tear. At CB, we have a JC transfer -- a Junior named Chijoke Onyenagecha (or something like that). The announcer at the Spring game pronounced it something like "Imgonnagetcha". Dude was fast as hell, hit hard and was just impressive to watch. My biggest concern is OU's running game. It looks like they'll start Kejuan Jones this year. The guy has just not impressed me yet. He's also according to my little brother who had a class with him this Spring at least flunking one class. Later in the season, we may get some help from true-freshman Adrian Peterson who was widely considered the best RB prospect this year (and maybe for a long time).
My alma mater, Central Oklahoma looks to have an excellent year in DII. Coach Chuck Langston had a hell of year in what should have been a "rebuilding season", they went 9-4 -- making it to the second round of the playoffs. Both QB's are gone this year, the starting RB and our best WR are also gone -- so there are huge question marks on offense. The scariest thing about Central Oklahoma is that around 58 (that's not a typo) new players signed onto the team over the summer (not many were given scholarships) including some players that would have started for some DI teams. I'm thinking they'll have a better year than last year. Should really be contenders in the LSC and in the playoffs if they continue down the path they've been on.

Penn State had a good recruiting class but the team will suck because they have an 80 year old coach who is senile.

Did you go to PSU?
Is your SN have anything to do with Mad Mex's there? Everytime i go visit my sister we go eat there. We had wings there 3 times in a row one weekend.
The trip to the End Zone was definately interesting.

The Razorbacks look to have a shaky year.
I went to Arkansas' spring practice. I'd say we probably have the best D-Line we've had in a loooong time this year, with some true freshman starters who weren't at the spring game. That's the bright spot on defense. The starting secondary will all be first time starters with probably a couple freshmen and JC players playing regularly who are coming in the fall. There are 2 returning starters at linebacker, who, along with the other depth already there and the newcomers in the fall could be a very strong group. I think Desmond Sims will be a stud at LB before he graduates and will finally get his chance this year.
On offense Matt Jones, better quarterback than Brad Smith at Mizzou (who is touted as a top Heisman contender) and proved it in the Independence Bowl last year. Problem is he is playing behind an entirely new O-Line with a total of 2 starts between them. But they are more talented than the group from the last few years that led the SEC in rushing. The Running Backs are more solid top to bottom than I can remember. Peyton Hillis being the top of these coming in the fall. The WR core is the best that's been there in a long time as well. All speedsters and athletes. Will open the offense more in the passing game, allowing Matt Jones to be even more dangerous.
The defense will be the strength of this team in my opinion.
But, with all the new players and freshman starters it will be up and down and lucky to finish .500 on the year with the schedule. Texass and Georgia at home, Florida and Auburn on the road. LSU in Little Rock the day after Thanksgiving, will be tough to stay undefeated here. Everyone else is much improved and it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I can't wait.
My alma mater doesn't have a football team, so, nothing to report there.

SDSU Football: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Tip to SDSU Sports Dept: If you REALLY want to increase attendance, stop coming to Greek houses on walk around, stop bitching about our (non) loyalty, stop doing every single premium possible to get people there, and PUT A PRODUCT ON THE FIELD THAT ISN'T ELIMINATED FROM THE POST SEASON BEFORE THE FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON IS OVER.

The "rankings" after spring football.

They put Georgia as 3. LSU is 1. USC is number 2. All I know is the Georgia/ LSU game will be a good one and this time its in Athens.

U of H will be starting it's season with a very tough schedule. I'm predicting a 5 - 2 start. But I would love to go 6 - 1 with a jaw dropping upset.
9/4 at Rice (or 9/5 v. Rice at Reliant)
9/11 at Oklahoma (TV?)
9/18 Army
9/23 Miami (Reliant Thurs ESPN)
10/2 at Memphis
10/7 at Southern Miss (Thurs ESPN)
10/23 at TCU

I don't know if the Oklahoma game will make it onto TV. I'm not trash talking you, but I think the outcome is basically a foregone conclusion.
They usually put these games on PPV here locally. It might make it on the ESPN Insider Plus channel. It's the same thing that happened when we played Fresno State last year (I'd say y'all are kind of on that level).

UConn looks like it could have a good year..Dan Orlovsky is one of the top rated senior qb's, and with Terry Cauley back it will have a solid offense.
I'm hoping for a winning record, and maybe, just maybe, a bowl invite. They came close last year.
