"List Eater" on the loose in Aggie Land

I can't believe Kitso hasn't posted this

Quote:
There's at least one student who's not very popular at Texas A&M University.

Aggies started camping out last Sunday to buy tickets for this season's SBC Cotton Bowl (search), in which A&M plays the University of Tennessee in Dallas on New Year's Day.

At 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning, an unnamed woman marched right past snoring football fans and took her place at the head of the line.

When the campers woke up at around 6 a.m. and began protesting, she grabbed the posted sign-up list of students who'd been waiting for days — and ate it.

"The piece of paper doesn't justify a spot in line to me if no one is standing there," the anonymous woman, a senior, later told the Battalion, the student newspaper. "If they wanted a spot, they should've woken up."

A spokesman for the university's athletic department said students had been putting their names on lists while waiting for tickets since at least 1985.

"[She] walked up in the line and people were trying to explain to her that she had to put her name on the list," said sophomore Amineh Baradar. "She didn't want to because she said [keeping lists of who was there first] wasn't an official university policy."

students stupidly allow themselves to be exploited.

I think the schools use these lines and camping out to build enthusiasm, sell tickets, and attract publicity (KXYZ-TV reports that "200 Aggie students are sacrificing their grades and daily showers, since they're so anxious to get a Bowl game ticket."), and students stupidly allow themselves to be exploited.

How many hours are wasted in such lines? How many pledges - sentenced to keep a spot in line for the bros - get discouraged and de-pledge?

Why can't our universities just put the tickets on sale when they get them?

If they want to have an orderly line, just pass out numbers, and enforce them.

WTBF?

This story has nothing to do with pledging or Greek life.

Not only does it not have anything to do with Greek life, it's definitely not true in all cases. At my school, in fact, the administration is trying to cut back on lines for tickets (up to a week for each football game, two weeks plus for basketball or hockey season tickets) because the cops have started cracking down on college students camping out. They've said that they can't treat college students sleeping outside on university property any differently than homeless people sleeping outside on university property, so now anybody who's caught sleeping or even brings a blanket/tent/pillow/etc. is kicked out of line.

There's nothing unusual about that!

people have had their name on a list to get tickets for a football game for 19 years?
Sounds like there is no life in texas.

Grades? You know what those are? I mean, you went to Baylor, where the only thing that matters is how much money Mommy and Daddy make.

I'm pretty sure that the majority of the camping was done over dead days. If they started Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday of that week are make up days for holidays. Then there are no classes Wednesday and Thursday. Friday finals officially start. I'd be willing to bet that some of them took books and notes out there to study.

The girl that did this is a moron. There's a video of the whole ordeal circulating around A&M websites that i downloaded the other day and it's hysterical.

I'll be surprised if she has the courage to show up to the actual game, considering that she'll be surrounded by people that she cut in front of. There are factions that are making special Maroon shirts that read, "Beat the Hell outta the Listeater!" on the front and quoting Coach Fran as saying "Eat Donuts, not lists" on the back.

I honestly hope that this woman gets booed when she graduates and that whenever she goes into a job interview with an Ag that they dismiss her on the spot. She's an embarassment to the school.

And i would have posted this, but it's been a hectic week of finals. And thanks again, s&s for explaining to us all how "much better" you think your school is compared to ours. This is a tradition that is not solely Aggie, but has been going on at A&M for years. Seeing as how a sense of family and community and brotherhood defines our university, the adminstration encourages it. Much like Krzyzewski-ville at Duke, the Ags were enjoyin "Camp Cotton". Coach Fran even bought them pizzas over the weekend and showed up with donuts the morning of the list-eating debacle.

KS 361 times i'd have kicked that big fat gordabeast in the ass

P.S. Aggieland is one word

Apparantly there isn't any reading comprehension in Iowa either.

And while the article states that the practice of keeping lists for those camping out has gone on officially for 19 years, i've heard from older Ags that it's been goin on since at least the 60's and 70's.

KS 361 times you're a fucknut

I now understand why U of H has a thug image; anyone pulling that type of crap would have gotten the shit beat out of them. I’m speechless that so many Aggies could hold their composure during this incident.

I gotta say this is hilarious. I know it's probably upsetting to the people who waited but damn it's funny.

The video with the dude with the glasses was funny too. I liked the singing in the end.

This video is so funny! I feel bad for the girl. I like the dude in the glasses especially when he is interviewing the news guy. It's great.
