Check out this link from awhile ago. Old Pi Phi Thread

Also, I suggest doing a t-shirt search on GC. It's been discussed many times. Good luck.

Hi & Congrats! I'm the new rush chair for MO Beta (Wash U) and I think I'd die if we had to have a no-frills rush (not that our rush is that elaborate to begin with.. we dont have houses).

What exactly is involved in a no frills rush? I don't know much about it...

Cool reply

Thanks! We dont have houses either, so thats why im nervous about no frills... what I was told, however I do not know it all yet... is no matching outfits, ( basically we cant have the same jeans and tops... colors are ok, but I cant tell everyone to buy seven jeans and a juicy top...) I also can only have one free standing prop. This means like one back drop, one statue... etc. it sucks, but Im hoping someone out there will give me ideas.
Thanks!!!

you mean at regular rush you *can* tell the whole chapter to go out and buy sevens and a juicy top???

We'll have people wear white shirt/jeans or white button down/black dress pants or even printed tees w/jeans, but unless something is printed specifically for that event, nobody actually wears the exact same thing for anything. we *DO* decorate though, although we're only allowed balloons (1 color) for go greek (and there are all sorts of rules on what can be served)

Yea, other houses on campus were getting out of hand by telling the girls to by over 300-500 dollars worth of rush clothes... this is why panhellenic said we cant do that anymore... im just looking for decoration ideas and party ideas...

wow.. that really is no frills... I guess ours was medium.

We matched as far as ..

this night dark jeans and philanthropy shirt (we already had them so didnt have to go out and buy a new shirt).. white dress.. black pants and "a nice going out no trashy looking shirt" etc.

I mean no one ever had to buy anything bc you already had this stuff..

as far as one decoration that would be hard.. can the one back drop cover just one wall.. or the entire room? For our sisterhood night we always did pi phi heaven.. the whole room was covered in white drapes (and then we had christmas lights and silver balloons.. )

if it is just one wall.. you could decorate one big for a theme.. to pick one statue or something would be tough..

do you have themes for different nights?

we do! nobody has a theme for the first day, we're allowed 1 color of balloons as our only decoration BUT its in each sorority's suite so you sort of do have decorations by default.. its not like you are in an empty room.

day 2 : philanthropy day -- our new theme this year is "winter wonderland"

day 3 : outsides -- our theme is "Clue" to go along with our Clue-themed rush play (like clue the board game)

day 4: prefs

Ours is fairly no-frills. I'll give you the rundown.

Saturday: Open Houses

Members wear black pants (no cargo pockets or slits; cuffs allowed) and white button down shirt (long sleeves preferred, but three-quarter acceptable). Close-toed black shoes. Pins with wine and blue ribbon, provided by the Recruitment Chair.

House tours with rooms focusing on social, philanthropy, etc. We also serve punch and small snacks like sugar cookies, pretzels, etc.

Sunday: Skit Day (This gets a little elaborate)

We have a new skit this year: "The Wizard of Oz"

Members wear jeans and fall pick up shirt from this year (black t-shirt everyone has). Our recruitment chair is encouraging everyone to wear their hair in french braids or pigtails (you know, like Dorothy) and providing rainbow ribbon.

Our skit is looking like its going to be pretty elaborate, so it probalby wouldn't be of much use to you.

Monday: Formal Desserts

Members wear cocktail-length black dresses with nude hose and black shoes. And our pins, of course.

Tuesday: Prefs

Mmebers wear black dresses of any length with nude hose, black shoes, and pins.

As you can see, it's all stuff that everybody owns already, or should own (black dress, white oxford, etc.). With the decor I really can't help you, because outside of skits we don't decorate.

Best of luck!
