Reaffirmation Restored to Saint Augustine=92s College
Raleigh, NC =96 The sanctions have been removed and reaffirmation has bee=
n
fully restored to Saint Augustine=92s College. The Southern Association =
of
Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges held its Annual Meeting in
Atlanta, Georgia and made the announcement this morning in its General
Session.
A Special Committee visited the College on October 24-26, 2004 and made a
preliminary assessment. The *Report of the Special Committee found no
reason to question the integrity of Saint Augustine=92s College and
indicated in their initial report that the College received an
=93unqualified=94 A-133 Financial and Compliance Audit opinion for 2004, =
and
had taken steps to reorganize its debt structure; implemented procedures
to significantly enhance its operation in accounts payable and student
accounts receivable; and ended the second consecutive year with a surplus
for the institution=92s recent financial history which demonstrated
financial stability.
Attending the Annual Meeting, Dianne Boardley Suber, President of Saint
Augustine=92s College, stated, =93The Commission=92s ruling validates the
College in a way that was anticipated and expected. It is a result of th=
e
College community team working steadfastly and continuously to ensure tha=
t
Saint Augustine=92s College can continue to provide the level of excellen=
ce
in the learning environment for its students. The assessment of the
College=92s audit team and the reaffirmation of the accreditation team
should put to rest any perception that Saint Augustine=92s College is at
risk.=94
This process of reaffirmation never focused on the quality of academic
programs at the College. School officials have known since October that
the criteria and standards were met but did not release any information
until the official report was released from the Commission. With the
financial framework now established to code, management with structured
and meticulous standards will operate the direction and goals of the
College.
Accreditation was never at risk for Saint Augustine=92s College.
Reaffirmation has been restored and the academic business of educating an=
d
engaging young and talented minds will continue on the campus of Saint
Augustine=92s College. Falcons continue to fly high.
