It's almost time for slating!!!
Well I don't know if everyone calls it slating, but I imagine so. Our chapter is all talk about slating for exec lately. I would love to talk with girls from other chapters about some fresh new ideas that could be brought to our Utah Alpha chapter!!! I would especially love to hear about ideas from the CP! I am heavily considering it! I want to put as much into Pi Phi as I feel I have gotten out of it!
Let's open this up to all slating positions and could throw out successful ideas each of our chapters have used that maybe others could benefit from as well! Talk to your sisters that have positions on exec currently and tell them to post things too!!!
Pi Phi Love,
Lindsey

I served 3 terms as an Exec officer in my chapter and loved every moment of it. While I was slated for positions that I had not thought of, I accepted the wisdom of the slating committee (who were looking at the big picture) and did not challenge it... I wanted to be VP Social but was slated for Secretary. When VP Social came up, I turned down the floor nomination. That was the only time out of my 4 years in the chapter that the slate passed and it was a very strong group that worked well together. I guess my message is... let the slating process work. Elections should not be a popularity contest.
Karen
ps: for those who got their ARROW today... the new international officer structure was announced. This also includes a revised chapter officer structure. It will be trialed in several chapters this year, including NC Delta and introduced at Convention.

I just wanted to ditto what Karen said. I served as Nominations Committee chair (aka the "slaters") during my senior year. We worked for numerous hours deciding the slate. Trust me, we think through everything.

Heya,
Well, this is my second year on nom com, and while I encourage the chapters to trust the slate (why are we here if not to serve you?) I truly do believe in the democratic system and I support people running off the floor. I mean, actives aren't stupid, if they don't think someone can do the job, they won't vote them in. However, I have a small enough chapter that not much IS a popularity contest. My chapter is a shade under 40 women, so if you screw up, everyone remembers. It's not that they don't forgive, it's just that they don't forget
ppl,
C.

Right. I've seen it happen in my chapter where it was a popularity vote or even just a lack of confidence in their own sisters. It's a very touchy topic!

I'm running for exec... I handed in my letter of intent and my interview is monday night!
I'd really love to be on nom com next year bc I'd interested in seeing what goes on when they decide: what they look for, how easy it is to be decided, whether people agree, etc. I guess in my mind I'm thinking along the lines of the play "12 angry men" haha
(haha, I guess I'm really intrigued by the whole "recruitment" process... I was just on the recruitment/member selection committee for the peer counseling group I am a part of, I'm the asst to VP recruitment for my honorary, and the position I'm hoping to get slated for in Pi Phi is recruitment chair)

I can't apply since I'm graduating this year, but our slate is finished here at VA Theta and we'll be voting on it next Monday... I'm very excited for all the new Exec members.
Our CPP presented the new officer structure to us at her recent chapter visit. I am VERY EXCITED about it and I think it will bring great benefits to the sorority and clear up a lot of ambiguities.

Totally new positions. I don't have the time to describe it right now, but basically all the offices are changing except for President. All of the slated officers are going to be VPs, and the titles are totally different.

We didn't change anything...
we still have:
Pres
VP Moral
VP Mental
VP Social/New Member Educator
Secretary
Treasurer
Rush Chairman
Risk Management Educator
Social Chairman
Efficiency Chairman
House Manager
Membership Chairman
Panhel Delegate
Are these positions just renamed or are they totally different?

Nothing will change until after Convention 2005. The officer changes will be presented on as changes to the C&S and if they pass they will be voted in. If they pass these changes will happen in slating for fall 2005.
Off the top of my head, some of the new offices were:
Chapter President (stays the same)
VP Administration
VP Event Planning
VP Membership
... Those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head.
In terms of the International structure there are no longer going to be CPPs and APPs. Instead of 32 provinces there will be 8 regions with regional directors in each. Each regional director will have 5 regional specialist under her: Programming, Alumnae, Risk Management are a few I remember.
Then with the national officers a lot of things are changing in terms of directors and who supervises who. I can't remember all of it though.
