Same Energiya booster was used to launch Buran ("Snowstorm"), the Soviet space shuttle. It's now a kid's attraction at Gorky Park in Moscow. The second Buran was destroyed in its hangar when the roof collapsed on it because of a heavy snowfall.
Early Salyut ("Salute" to Yuri Gagarin, first man in space) space stations were built strictly as orbiting military reconnaissance platforms, similar to the aborted US Air Force Manned Orbiting Laboratory (MOL). It was not until recently that information on the military Salyuts was declassified.
