Greek Info Tables
For those of you who have info tables before recruitment, what kinds of things do you do to get girls interested? We decorate our table with ASA paraphenalia (including an afghan as a tablecloth, with the letters showing in front of the table), ladybug decorations, tons of pictures, and our chapter scrapbook. We have an info sheet to hand out, but we've also considered handing out something like pencils (maybe personalized with "Rush ASA!").I've heard of some sororities giving out small goodie bags of candy, etc. What kinds of things do y'all do, and how do you decorate? What works and makes you stand out from the other sororities?

We don't really have those. During the first week of classes, we have "First Friday Festival" and Panhel sponsors a table to get girls interested in rushing. We put out our paddles and scrapbooks and letters, some houses have posters, the sisters all wear their letters. Most chapters are there doing service projects so we're really visible. During the end of fall quarter, we have the rush sign up table with a huge poster board on it with pictures of sorority life.

During the summer before recruitment is Previews (like Orientation) for all the new students... Lots of groups on campus setup booths... Usually including the sororities and some of the fraternities... My chapters booth usually included: piece of starry cloth we covered the table with, A nice Alpha Delta Pi banner with the official logo that was adopted at the 2000 convention, A stuffed Lion or two or three, multiple scrapbooks and photo albums, the pamphlet that is produced by the sorority and the pamphlet that the chapter makes, a guestbook to get womens email addresses (since phone numbers don't work if they don't know where they will be living in the fall), and usually a bowl of candy...
Also, panhellenic sets up a booth also, where they can get more general info about recruitment...
Another comment on the guestbook, is that if they don't end up going through formal recruitment you have a name and some way to contact them to find out if they are still interested...

My TBS chater does this every year at the first official band meeting where all the freshmen come in! We take girls and individually pass out suckers or lifesavors and ask them to drop by our table. We have all kinds of cutesy decor stuff and scrapbooks.
Having a Guestbook is awesome!! We did that, and then that night we sent out a "welcome to the Wildcat Marching Band and the University of Kentucky. My name is ..... and if you have any quetions during practice week or after here is my number. Take care...and have fun!" That is kinda welcoming... and they get excited that some upperclassmen are emailing them.
We also printed out invitese to our next event. THey had a cute lil zebra *our mascot* background.
the key is to look happy though! And no drama. I know this sounds stupid to even say. But I have been to COR/COB events where individual sororities are sitting at tables and the girls are having "omg at the bar last night michael kissed another girl...." "WHAT? a**hole"... Seriously, I walked up on that convo... not a good join our sorority type of deal.

Having a table in the quad is the only way at my school to let peole know about the sororities, as they won't give us acess to info to do a mailer over the summer. So we have a panhellenic table. Each sorority is allowed to put out a mascot, a scrapbook, a letter sweater, and a paddle. We also hand out flyers about when rush is starting and stuff like that. We take down their contact info to remind them when first round starts. At the first round open house/informational night of rush each chapter is allowed to do their own table, so everyone goes all out, we have TONS of pics, scrapbooks, roses, balloons and other para. One thing we did once which helped us to stand out was put a laptop running a power point presentation on our table with photos and cute captions.
My chapter just actually started handing out candy in class. The candy just has our letters and chapter website printed on it, so it's just a way to try and get our name out there.

At info tables, we usually have TONS of pictures, scrapbooks, composites, big/lil sis boats, and other paraphrenalia. You might want to check on the pencil thing because those might be considered an infraction (handing out things).

We do basically everything ya'll already stated (scrapboooks, sailboats, sorority stuff), but I think something that adds a nice touch is FRESH FLOWERS!! We had a huge bouquet one year of purple and white gladiolas (my faves) and everyone commented on how beatiful they were. i don't think they were that expensive either, maybe $30-50. Also balloons work nicely.
Another thing on my camupus that we do is hook up a TV and run our 'recruitment video'. It is a video collage of our pictures with music to it. Most girls will stop and watch for a second. But of course we set up inside, if you are outside this might not work because you wont have a way of hooking the TV (unless it runs on batteries). Anyway ... just a thought.

I know at my school on the first night after all the freshmen have moved in, they all have this picnic type thing in our gym (like all 4000 of them, its insane). I remember when I went to it, a lot of the clubs and some sororities had tables set up so they freshmen had to pass by. I stopped by the DG table and talked to some of the sisters about rush. They also gave me a sheet of paper with anchors all over it and it listed the week of rush, the DG website, and a few other things. They also had some tshirts and pictures on their table.
I think some cute things to have on your table or booth would be tshirts, pictures, paddles, and maybe a recent composite. I also liked the info sheet DG gave me because I checked the website a bunch of times before rush.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. I really like the guestbook idea--it would help tremendously! We've already thought about sending out a letter at the beginning of the semester to potentials, personally reminding them about rush...
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Okay just a thought ... I heard a lot of girls mention handing out pamphlets. I think that is a great idea! I was at Barnes and Noble the other day and I found this really awesome book that gave great ideas on makng pamphlets and flyers unique. I think that it' always important to be a little different to grab peoples attention. It's called the Layout Index. I looked through it and it gave a lot of great ways to inexpensively be different when designing brochures and pamphlets and things like that. Just a thought.
