Beef between Greeks
Hello Everyone:
Just writing about the situation that we are facing at Dominguez Hills. Seems like there is this war between Greeks. Mainly its with the Pan-Hellenic Council and the NALFO's but it seems to be leaking to us. The other day some Phi Sigs were wearing a cute red and white tee and all of a sudden we were getting rude remarks by some NPHC's. It was horrible! Seems that everytime this certain NPHC sorority is around....drama follows. They are known to crash informationals and just be plain rude to people. MMMM the problem is that if we don't learn to get along with one another, then our Greek system will be removed from campus.. including us!.Lets pray that dosen't happen! Ok enough about this! Hope everyone else is doing better than this!
Much Iota Gamma Luv!

ok, i'm assuming i know who it is... let's just say they haven't been around all that long (at dhills)
what you should do is talk with their president and if that doesn't help, then talk to their advisor.
also, another way to get them to respect our actives better, is to have a social with them. don't focus so much on being "cool" with the NALFO's because you're ignoring a whole 'nother council on campus... who have a lot more resources than all those NALFO's do put together. (what i was trying to get at, is don't ignore ANY group on campus... be friendly with all of them)
but that's just my 2 cents on it.

Rivalry
I don't understand why sororities are in competition with each other. We are all Greeks, and we should be friends, but it doesn't always work out that way, especially during recruitment. But, there are two other sororities that filed infractions against one another. No one does anything mean to us since we are friendly with everyone and VERY neutral, but they do bad mouth us. Are there other problems similiar or worse than this at your school?

This sounds exactly like our school ! The two other chapters are at each others' throats and we're cool with both of them. Actually a PNM told one of the sisters during recruitment that we were "so neutral" All you can do is make sure your chapter remains above it. I mean by all means file infractions if you have to, but other than that don't retaliate just keep doing your thing and concentrate on your chapter and making it better and the place to be, since I know it probably is already.

I have to add that we have rivalry... but I think it is because we only have two national sororities on campus... and the local is inactive. It is a little different with two I think.

we're the only npc on-campus, so we're not really liked by any of the other sororities.
they're just jealous! and that's ok... cuz we're still better!

what school do you go to? When was Phi Sig founded there, and what IFC fraternities do you have?

SapphireSphinx and I attend Cal State University Dominguez Hills in Los Angeles. We are both founding sisters of our chapter. Iota Gamma was founded on March 24, 2001.
As for the fraternities since the NALFO ones just joined IFC this is who we have on campus now.
Sigma Pi
Sigma Lambda Beta
Phi Iota Alpha
Lambda Theta Phi
NALFO sororities
Kappa Delta Chi
Sigma Iota Alpha
Sigma Lambda Gamm
There is supposedly an Asian interest sorority trying to start up.
We have most of the NPHCs on campus.

that's very awesome. We have all but one NPHC sorority, then we have MGC (Lambda Theta Phi, and Lambda Theta Alpha), IFC (Alpha Tau Omega, Alpha Epsilon Pi, Beta Theta Pi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Alpha Mu) currently active on campus, we used to have Pi Lambda Phi as well. As for NPC we only have 4 (Phi Sigma Sigma, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Phi Epsilon, and Theta Phi Alpha)...we need to match quota first until we can let anymore on campus. And, we also need housing but we only have a 3% Greeks on campus...Would the Asian sorority be considered an MGC sorority?

CSUDH doesn't have Greek housing at all. The city of Carson won't let us have houses - they're afraid that the Animal House stereotype would happen. It doesn't help that in the last couple of years local news has shown some houses being trashed by fraternities at some of the other universities in So. Cal.
We don't have separate multi-cultural councils for most of the Greeks - all our Greeks are just under the Greek Council. The NPHCs do have a separate council but they are all also members of the Greek Council. If the Asian sorority is able to get establish they will just become a member of Greek Council.

that's interesting, so you don't have NPC meetings, and the fraternities don't have IFC meetings? Because those are two separate councils here; one governs sororities and the other governs fraternities.

Nope they only have the Greek Council meeting. And that isn't working as well as they want - none of the other groups can seem to get along. There is a lot of tension between the other groups, to the point that CSUDH has threatened to shut down all Greek Life if the Greek Council doesn't start working together.

omg, well what we did is we hosted an event called GreekFest, and we had a carnival the first day, step shows and lip syncs in our restaurant on campus the second day and tailgate at our football game the third day. It brought a lot of us closer between councils, why don't you try scheduling a manditory event...what is the problem that everyone isnt getting along? Do they want to try to work together?

Phi Sig is the only NPC org on the CSUDH campus... so they get to govern themselves with our national giving them a "quota" and such.
