Beer Tabs for Cancer?

I went over to my friend's house the other night, and he was telling me how he and his housemates collect beer tabs because if you save them and send them in or something, they recycle them and use the money for cancer research. This sounds completely far-fetched to me, but then another person told me this too. Has anyone heard of this? Is it true? How does it work?

I've done the tab thing before. We send them to St. Barnabus's Hospital, who specialize in burn victums. I'm not sure what they do with them...but I've never gotten a letter that said For the love of God please stop sending us can tabs!!

One of my sisters and I used to run around parties collecting empties- so she could get the tabs, and I could make sure the cans made it into the recycle.

I'm sorry, this is somewhat O/T and I totally support the cause, but people still drink beer out of cans?

Maybe it's just us over here, but people get shit if they get caught drinking beer out of cans.

But the tabs of both beer AND soda pop cans have a higher concentration of aluminum in them than the rest of the can. Alpha Delta Pi chapters collect them for Ronald McDonald Houses.

My refrigerator looks like a recycling center! I have a baggie each for Campbell's soup labels and Boxtops for Education, and another for the tabs (ADPi).

Here, it doesn't really matter, although most of the time, beer's drank out of those red, plastic SOLO beer pong cups.

Haha...we definitely drink out of cans if we're hanging around; not so much at bars though.

I've never heard of people doing this for cancer reserch specifically but ADPi will collect tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.....they recycle them and use the money to pay their electricity bills. I guess they are pretty valuable in the recycling world. It's a good idea I think.

We collected the can tabs as well for ADPi’s philanthropy. They gave you points towards your total to win or something, so everyone would collect them year round. Everyone always came in with tons of them.

My fav theme bar in NYC does that, the Trailer Park. Somehow, we always end up at the bar when in NY. Probably because it is conviently located by a PATH station to get back to Jersey. That and its cheap.

A lot of people at Miami joke that they can always tell when ADPis are at a party, because all the empty cans are missing their tabs. We collect them for the Ronald McDonald House.
