Post Are you afraid?

O.K. I heard this on Doug Banks this morning and thought it would make a good topic here.
Are you afraid to go to the doctor?
If so, what kind of doctor are you afraid to go to most (dentist,ob/gyn,ect.).

Personally, I hate going to the doctor. I am so afraid they are going to tell me something is wrong. I absolutely loathe going to the dentist!! That's the worst to me.

What about y'all, sorors, sisterfriends,etc.

Actually DST-SUNSHINE1, I'm not afraid to go to ANY doctor (including the dentist) because if they are going to help me with my health issues then I'm all for it. I don't like to worry nor do I like PAIN (Girlfriend, if a tooth ACTS like it wants to hurt, I'm at the dentist's office). My husband had to endure a TERRIBLE toothache before he actually understood what I was saying. If I feel that ANYTHING may be wrong, Girl, I'm at the doctor's office PRONTO!!!!

I've read (and I also personally know in dealing with family members) that FEAR of the doctor/dentist often hinders proper care for illnesses. For example, some women diagnosed with breast cancer often admit that they noticed lumps, but just ignored it. If something is wrong, I want to know about it----BEFORE it's too late or things get worse.

Now, of course I get anxious or nervous, but I don't and won't let that stop me from being comfortable or better yet LIVING!!!!!

Girl, I'm gonna get you to come down here and hold my hand next time I go to the doctor. But, you are right, there could be something seriously wrong with me, I just hate to hear bad news. I'd rather not know. That's why my prophytes named me "sunshine"!!(I hope!)

I believe that when it comes to diseases and health issues African Americans have a higher number of deaths than other races because often times due to economic factors and lack of education we often wait when we find warning signs and symptoms before we go to the doctor. I sincerely believe that because I stayed in my health center on campus so much that the doctors thought that I was a hypochondriac! Better safe than sorry though I say. Several different types of cancer run throughout my family and I have several other health problems that I have to stay abreast of. However, after saying all of that the one thing that I absolutely detest is GOING TO THE DENTIST! I have this strange nightmare that when I go they are going to tell me that all of my teeth are going to fall out! Don't laugh I sincerely believe that this is what they are going to tell me. This all started when they told me that I would have to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled. Well they messed up and told me what the procedure would be like, some of my friends and Sorors decided that they wanted to tell me that exactly what happened to them and make sure not to get dry sockets...ugh and ever since then I just can't stand the dentist office!
