Transferring to a bigger chapter

Hi, I am looking for a little direction.

I am in an NPC sorority, and I need to transfer this spring to get the degree I want.

Unfortunately, I am finishing up my sophomore year. I will make it clear that I will probably be there for another three years but I am worried because of this:

*My college GPA is a 2.95. It passes the minimum requirements, but the chapter has high standards of academics.
*My appearance. I have pretty good style and nice hair, but I am overweight. This chapter literally has a lot of beauty queens.
*I'm often shy when first meeting new people.

I think an NPC sorority has to vote to allow me to be an active member in their chapter... is this right?

I plan on working out to lose some weight and creating a stellar resume, but what else should I do to prepare? Should I visit the chapter this spring? If this is a good idea, how should I tell them I want to visit? A letter or something else?

What about this fall? Do I need to bring recommendations or anything else?

I would be very happy if anyone can offer advice on how to make good impressions. Thank you very very much.

PS - I am transferring to a big Sotuhern school.
