Hey girls! I wanted to post this sooner, but the boards seemed to be down all week.
I turned in a slating letter for exec last weekend--the position I'm hoping to get is Social Chair. The slate is being announced tonight, and I'm DYING to know if I got it!!!
Anyways...here is my letter that I'm
hoping was enough to convince the slating committee that I'm the right one for the job! Please let me know what you think even though it's too late now to make any changes.
Also, has anyone turned in a letter? For what positions? I'm just curious!

My letter:
To the sisters of Delta Phi chapter of Phi Mu,
I am writing this letter to express an interest in the executive position of Social Chair. I believe that I can bring new life into the social aspect of our sisterhood if I were to be elected to this position.
I feel that currently, we do not do enough as a chapter to make ourselves known on Ashland University’s campus. If I were social chair, I would strive to change this. I would plan sisterhood outings to places where other students like to go and will see us there together, such as Buffalo Wild Wings or Lone Pine Saloon
(for GreekChatters: this is a nearby bar that is popular with AU students). I also have many ideas for mixers with the fraternities on campus that I think might be fun. Themed gatherings such as Doctors and Nurses, Golf Pros and Tennis Hoes, and White Trash Bash, are just few ideas I have on a seemingly endless list, and these could be enjoyable for everyone. We could even co-host a dance with a fraternity in which we charge a small admission price and split the profits so that we could donate money to Children’s Miracle Network!
Besides meeting the fraternity brothers that make up part of AU’s Greek community, I also believe it is important to strive for Greek unity with the other sororities. Therefore, I would plan activities with the three other chapters on our campus—maybe dinners with them in our suite or outings to places around town. In the time that I have been here, we haven’t made an effort to be friendly with and get to know the other sororities, and I think it would be good for our image to do so. There’s also nothing wrong with making friends with girls in the other chapters!
In addition to mixer planning, I would also like to plan a date/crush party, a semi-formal, and a formal that all of the chapter members can enjoy. I am willing to put in all of the effort it takes to find affordable and fun locations where we can hold these events, including visiting prospective places, making phone calls, and asking for ideas from the chapter.
I feel that I am qualified for this position because I am very outgoing and I am not afraid to talk to people and make new friends. I would take the initiative in contacting the social chairs of the other Greek organizations on campus. I believe I am responsible and organized, and I am willing to do what needs to be done to make sure that everything gets planned. In addition, I have been on Social Committee this year and last, so I have been able experience firsthand a little bit of what event planning requires.
If I receive the position of social chair, I am willing to work hard so as to ensure a more enjoyable social calendar in 2005 for the sisters of Phi Mu. I hope you will give me your fullest consideration.
