Word has it that someone is working on the site, but there have been no improvements, unless the idea is to completely replace it. Digital has been down for three years, there are no pictures of badges on the merchandise page, and this is what a visitor sees today under Conferences.

I talked to the brother who's working on this
at IHQ (Chip Hinde?? ...I'm terrible with names).
Talked to him at GA.

He said he hoped to have the "new site" ready by
JAN. They put out a call for volunteers to help....
don't know how many they got. I'd like to volunteer,
since I know HTML/PHP/MySQL, etc (all the stuff they
wanted), but Idon't have the time now that I'm back
in school.

Maybe something new will be there soon. Its alot of
work

Yeah, I believe it was Jason I talked to.
Jason used to be the IT guy, then left, then returned...
I think MAYBE Chip was the IT guy in between.

Chip Hinde is a BN who is an egg Head, but a good Egg Head!

No, there have been several Brothers who have offered services and never heard anything back. They were offering gratus=free!

I beleive there are some on G C who were willing to do it for the Love of being a Brother of LXA!

The website is awful - what more can I say.

Information is difficult to find and, without the secret handshake, needed material is tough to find. We need to organize the material and arrange it to be user friendly to the members as well as the public.

We also need to keep the data up to date. It apparently is getting better, but we can do a far better job with respect to the posting of current and timely information. Information on conferences should be hung on the web site as soon as the dates are set, with subsequent updates to reflect changes in location, etc.

Can I make a suggestion (and butt in)?

I'm an information architect (IA) by trade. I basically work with graphic designers and website programmers to make sure that websites are user friendly.

If LXA doesn't have an (inter)national website committee, you should solicit volunteers to create one. If you do have one, hire an IA (or find a volunteer) to help with the process. If money is an option, graduate programs in human computer interaction, information architecture, or library and information studies are an excellent way to get students to do the work for free in exchange for course credit. (I know of a few programs in the US and Canada, so PM me if you need some leads)

In order to make sure that websites are truly user friendly, you need someone to conduct user studies. That's part of what IAs do. That can be done in a questionnaire format just to get a basic idea of what Lambda Chis (and potential members/parents) are looking for when they come to the site. The IA then works with the designers and programmers to come up with some scenarios and clickable prototypes that can be used to conduct field tests to see if the proposed designs are truly user friendly. These prototypes are tested, reworked, and retested until a final version of the site is ready to go live. But the process doesn't end there. Web development is an iterative process that never truly ends. That's where a lot of websites fall flat.

This effort can be very extensive - including working to optimize any back-end databases that are used to drive content, or it can be something as simple as making sure that the navigation used on the site is easy to understand and makes it easy for people to find their way through the site from any and all entry points.

Just something for you guys to think about.

Hey, just to address this thread...I will say, and this is not anything where I am stepping on Jason's toes or trying to put words in his mouth, but from the presentation made at the Board of Director's meeting last weekend, the Website is going to be awesome, and should be up soon, pending the funding of course. Basically, the wait is due to a program that will allow HQ and the Website to be correllated with one another more easily. For instance, Gammas will be able to fill out forms as well as upload info online rather than through mail, allowing for expediated services from HQ and Chapter Services. Anywho, I must get back to I-Week activities.

Brother Hill, We can only hope as The, Our Site has been screwed up for so long!

This is a tool by which most if not all Zeta Sites Link to from Colleges all over.

It helps Sell LXA to those that are trying to get information as Possible New Members.

Gents: From what I've heard through the IHQ grapevine, the changes made on the website are minimalized because we're going to be getting a revamped version soon. That's all I know--sorry, I don't have a timeline. Yes, I can hear some of you thinking it's like "Waiting for Godot", but it WILL happen!

If We are The Best Fraternity then We should have one of the Best Web Sites.

I a couple of years ago got a survey to fill out as to what I thought a Web Site should be.

If you go to many Greek Organizational Web Sites, they are pretty damn slim for National Organizations.

As I told them, Navigation is a major part and easy to follow to get there with the information needed.

Thanks to sistermadly for jumping in and making suggestions, it may be of help in the long run.

Over all, We had a good web site, it was just never updated for the longest of times.

As I told my Guys at LX Z, this is a selling tool that is always out there, at the National level, local level, on Zeta Web Sites, and School Web Sites. Possible to find it, read it, get links to a certain school, what Lambda Chi Alpha is and find an interest before they ever come to college.
