If it makes YOU sad, then you can just imagine the affect it has had on me and on Soror Kelli (and my other Sorors who moderate)! No matter the greek affiliation, we are all human and unique individuals and thus prone to disagreements and conflicts. I welcome constructive criticism because it helps me become the woman I am striving to be. For me, one is never perfect until the day she dies--only then can she not strive to be a better person. I am not hurt by the comments made about me, nor am I bothered by the posting of text from my private e-mails (both on GC and Delphi, from what I understand). I am only hurt that disharmony and conflicts were made public. We know they exists; they always have and they always will--in EVERY organization (be it black greek, white greek, non-greek, etc). But they do not need to be broadcasted.
I am hoping that we can ALL work together to make a fresh start FROM THIS POINT ON.
For those of you who are interested in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, please DO NOT let this forum (and the dialogues herein) sway you against your goal. Delta Sigma Theta is a TRULY WONDERFUL ORGANIZATION of some of the BEST, BRIGHTEST, STRONGEST, MOST GOAL-ORIENTED, INNOVATED, and BEAUTIFUL women God has blessed this world with. I am in awe of each and every one of them I have met, read, or heard about, because each one has something positive from which I can learn, gain, or benefit.
BeeJae's committment to and zeal for DST are evident through her growing, successful Web site. In this Internet era, what is not to admire about a black woman who has arguably one of the most frequented, visually appealing, user-friendly, helpful, and educational sites in cyberspace? There are numerous positive aspects of her page, as I'm sure each of you will agree.
Now, without sounding arrogant, I have to say that, like BeeJae, I, too, am successful in my endeavors to do something positive, even if it's limited to my own microcosm as opposed to cyberspace. I work in student affairs at Ohio State University. Initially I studied film production with dreams of becoming a cinematographer and screenwriter. While I love filmmaking, I knew that my calling was to help people, particularly young people going through the challenging and difficult vicissitudes of college life. So, I was drawn to this career in higher education, and haven't regretted it yet. Why? Because I love being there for students, helping students, motivating and encouraging students. Nothing feels as good to me as having a student come in my office, shut the door and just start crying about whatever, only to see them lighter, smiling, and laughing by the time I'm done with 'em!
I was asked to moderate this forum because of the way I have approached questions posted by interested ladies. I am knowledgeable and insightful, but more than anything, I am understanding and compassionate. I don't seek glorification for my Delta membership and I haven't (and I refuse to) come CLOSE to forgetting what it was like to want to be a Delta. As a moderator, I am not here to toot my horn or demand respect--only to help my Sorors, Sisterfriends, and forum visitors in any and every way that I can, just as Soror BeeJae's Website has in some way or another, helped me, you, and many others (i.e. vendors, writers, etc).
So, in conclusion, while there is sometimes conflict and discord, there is always strength and determination in Delta. Strong-willed, determined BLACK WOMEN will and do bump heads from time to time, but that's only because we are, as individuals, alike in that respect. Delta Sigma Theta would not be where she is without these women, and will never continue to succeed without these women.
Sorors, I trust that we will strive to represent the core of our Sisterhood within this forum, so that we can and will continue to attract the strong-willed, determined women we need in order to maintain/exceed the level of success and accomplishment we have had since 1913.
Interested Ladies, keeps your eyes on the prize!
Blessings,
the411
