Lightbulb

Last night was my first time watching WEAKEST LINK and I liked it. I also watched Chains of Love which had nothing to do with love. It had more to do with getting your freak on, getting paid, and being on TV to launch their careers.

I found the Weakest Link funny and challenging. I liked the host's in your face style.

I don't see it as genocide but more of a SURVIVAL of the FITTEST. I do not watch Survivor, Boot Camp, or any of the others but the Weakest Link will be one that I tune in to watch. A lot of controversy is springing up at a lot of these shows, i.e. Temptation Island. Boot Camp and Survivor are suing each other.

I do think that this will impact our society especially our youth but this is where PARENTS need to be parents and turn the TV off or EXPLAIN to their children that everything seen on TV is not reality even if it is being billed as REALITY TV. Parents need to communicate with their children and help them distinguish between reality and distorted fantasy. There are a lot of kids who are my 9th graders, 11th graders claiming to be the next KOBE, IVERSON, etc. yet are NOT on the school team.

Thanks for posting this. I will make this one of my students journal topics for the month of May to get their feedback on how they view REALITY TV. I will have to let you all know what they think.

I understand, but these are adults, and I think they get what they deserve for going on that show in the first place. I am in a hgard mood, today, so maybe I'll feel differently tomorrow, but yes, we are raising Americans and Eurpeans to be cutthroat capitalists who want to be in everyone's business.

Don't even get me started on Temptation Island!

I guess I am just too old-fashioned way too pollyannaish about seeing more comradery/community and less selfishness in this society, especially on TV.

I've never even seen an episode of those Reality TV shows. I think they're ridiculous. Just hearing some of the things that go on and what people are willing to put themselves through out of greed sickens me. On the flip side though, I did watch Weakest Link for the past two nights and although it models itself somewhat after Survivor and Millionaire (I think), I enjoyed it. Simply because it is a game testing KNOWLEDGE and people don't have to eat bugs or starve themselves . That hostess is a tad bit annoying though.

Yeah, I also watched "Weakest Link" for the first time this week and I kinda liked it. It was was something new and different. I'm fascinated with the hostess' accent. It' a do or die situation, straight to the point, win or loose. I don't think that it's really any different than "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire". Now I've been watching "Survivor II" and I kinda like that too. I don't know exactly why, but I do.

Angry What is this world coming to?

I can't understand why our society is glorifying so many TV shows that center around conflict and the expulsion of fellow man! No offense to those of you who like shows like Survivor and Real World, but I don't like the fact that, nowadays, we are applauding shows on which people are supposed to vote each other off or "bumb heads," and for MONEY and FAME, of all things!!!

Last night, I caught a glimpse of this new show, "Weakest Link" (or something like that), and I was disgusted by the overall theme, not to mention that annoying hostess. What are we teaching our children--that if you don't like someone or are intimidated/threatened by his/her strength and confidence (i.e. the black chick I heard about on Survivor), you can and should simply GET RID OF THEM because they may cause problems for you? That sounds like a form of genocide to me!

I think these shows are ridiculous, and I can't understand why they are so successful. The fact that they are is quite scary! Obviously they are successful because millions of people watch and enjoy them. I know it's just entertainment, but why are we so entertained by THAT?!?! I feel like I'm the only person on earth who has a problem with seeing shows like this. Am I? Does anyone else understand where I'm coming from here? Maybe someone can shed some light on the subject.
