Post Stress Relievers

Recent "events" on our forum have prompted me to try to figure out how best to relieve my stress. The best things that work for me are long deep tissue massages, listening to Sade, Jill, Lauren, or a smooth jazz station like WNUA 95.5 (Chicagoans). What are some of your favorite stress relievers? Let's hear them all, even the ones that are not so common.

There's nothing like taking a nice bubble bath with candles. Listening to some Luther or Phyllis. I found that taking time to go to an all day spa is a nice treat and it helps.

I'm not even going to touch that other thread because one person might end up with her feelings hurt tonight! Anyway to relax I like to light candles play any of my Sade, Maxwell, or faith Evans cds. Sometimes I may simply lay down and watch some of my favorite movies such as Love Jones. All in all I love solitude period! I savor any time that I have to myself!

Relax, Relate, Release black people!!!

I'm really feeling all of the Sisterfriends when talking about the BATHS!!! Yes, yes, yeees!!!! Hey, I'm the mother of a 7 yr. old, 22 month old, and 28 yr old (my husband ) and that is the one true way that I can just get away. I usually run the bath water as hot as I can stand it, lock the door, light a vanilla, rosemary, or eucalyptus candle, put on Jill Scott, Erikah Badu, Carl Thomas (or something else SMOOOOOOTH), bubble up, and JUST RELAAAAAXXXX!!! I've found out over the years that this is one of the times that I can CATER TO MYSELF and talk to GOD!!!! TOTALLY SELF-RENEWING!!!

Whewwww....

Once upon a time, a lil black gurl would just come up in here for some jokes, laughs, intellectual convo, and what-nots! Sista had a stressful day (ahh-take that back a stressfull a$$ week)! Greek chat is the place I could come to unwind, kick off my shoes, and shoot the shyt!

Today, wasn't one of them for obvious reasons...

Anywho, while closing my eyes tightly before opening my door this evening, I envisioned...

A very warm bubble bath, Stylistics or some Dells in the background , glass of chilled wine waiting. A nice succulent meal waiting... and a nice firm massage...

Instead my four year old's askin a million questions while the seven year old's cuttin her eyes at me cuz we didn't go to our usual Wednesday hotspot - McDonalds.

Good thing I have an imagination, huh?

On a serious note, I truly hope that all of us sistafriends (greeks and nongreeks alike) can unruffle our feathers, pull our panties out of a bunch and truly work on some positive methods of communication! (Corny as it may sound-I always attempt to be the peacemaker).

GROUP HUG!!

to relieve stress, i GO TO SLEEP!!! sleep is one of the most beautiful things in this world to me. in the event that i just can't take up my pillow and enjoy slumber, i'll listen to some soothing music, stare at the smoke from an incense, gaze out the window/at the clouds/at stars. after a stressful schoolwork load, i like to puff a black-n-mild. i know it isn't very cute or lady-like, but it really makes me feel better.

I hope life isn't a big joke, because I don't get it.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind

These are some simple relaxation tools that help me:
Breathe deeply, from your diaphragm (deep down not from your chest but from your "gut")

Slowly repeating a calm word such as the famous relax, relate, release

Use Imagery, i.e. thinking about something pleasant like your children or what you and your spouse did last night

call me silly but if someone stresses me out at work like my boss or co-worker I go in my office and call my best friend and talk bad about them calling them everything from dirt bag to a "single-cell life form" . Basically laughing the stress away.

and the final but BEST thing for me to do when I'm stress is doing yoga-like exercises. It can relax your muscles and make you feel much calmer.

Ain't that the truth.

Doing cardio exercises also helps to relieve stress. I always feel stress-free after doing an hour long aerobics class.

I also like to light some candles, put on some smooth music & sip on a glass of white Zin.

See....I was trying to find a PC way of saying my favorite stress reliever but you hooked it up girl friend!! Uh huh...me too....what jazbri said!!

I also like to sit next to large bodies of water. Lakes, the ocean, a babbling stream will do in a pinch. Water really calms me. When I am living my lifestyles of the rich and famous I am going to have a big ol' house on a lake (with no neighbors!)

I agree with you, Eclipse, water is my THANG.
It seems to have a calming effect on me also. Do you think it's because of my zodiac sign (Scorpio)? Hey, I don't know. But I DO know that even being at the BEACH is like being in another world!
