Nalia Stores
Hello to the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. I hope you don't mind me posting here but I have a question. I know the topic of internet nalia shopping has been discussed, but I have a different question. I was wondering if anyone in the Baltimore/DC area could tell me where I could find some Delta gifts for some of my friends. I know I could shop online but I'd rather go in person. Thanks for your help.

I hope the women of DELTA SIGMA THETA, Sorority Incorporated don't mind me posting, but I will share with you an answer I received in regards to a non-member purchasing 'nalia... period.
I was always taught that it is a NO-NO for non members to touch, wear, break(by accident) or purchase 'nalia if you are not a member of a BGLO... even if you mean it as a gift for those who are. However, I was also taught that it was okay to make or buy cards, buy useful objects that were the orgs. colors (I don't know about hand painting the letters though?), purchase stuffed animals that are symbolic to the org., or to simply say congradulations (but only if you are sincere).
I hope this is useful for the gifts that you plan to purchase for your friend.

Interesting, I've never been told that. Being a GDI, I've given my honey, an Omega, para before. I've also given my bestfriend, a Delta, an elephant.
I would love to hear clarification on this question.
To answer where to buy in the DC area, the Guild is across the street from Howard University's campus. Also, I think there's a store at U of M College Park.

If it is a "no no" to buy a gifts for friends if you are not a member of a BGLO I sincerely would like to apologize. I thought the only thing that wasn't allowed was wearing something that has the organizations name on it or using an object, such as an unbrella. If it frowned upon though I won't purchase anything.

Before I submitted, I thought that it would be frowned upon if I were to be caught with something with the letters for DST on it, even if it was a gift for someone else. However, I didn't let that hinder me from giving my friends gifts. Now that I have crossed those sands, I say that it's no prob for anyone to shop for a greek friend. As long as the pari is not for you, I say buy on! What do you think Sorors? Do you mind Non-greeks buying pari as a gift for someone?

There are two stores that I know of in DC. The Guild. It's right on Georgia Ave. across the street from the gates to Howard.
Another one is on University Blvd. in Maryland across from Fraternity Row at UMCP.
Both have pretty decent selestions, but you'll find better stuff on the internet.

I have never heard of the GDI being prohibited from purchasing 'nalia for a Greek friend or family member.

purchasing a gift for someone who is greek is perfectly alright...my friends who are non greek buy me stuff all the time.
now if your intentions is to do something else with it and you are non greek...prepare to pay the price when appraoched.

I have never been told that a non greek could not purchase gift for otheres that had smbols on them. I have been given plenty of gifts and so have my LS's by friends outside of Delta. Buying for some other reason would b frowned on (to perpatrate or this is paht I am going to buy it for myself now so I have it when I become a Delta...) but gifts? I don't see why that would be a ptoblem at all. And I am sure it would be appreciated by your friends.

Okay, I see where you are coming from and I agree. I think I was told that as a precautionary matter because "nosey" people who don't know that you are buying it as a gift may assume that your are perping if you are the same sex. I usually stick to figurines or stuffed animals because this way I don't have to worry about those looking for an oppurtunity to create false impressions.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Thank you ladies for your help. I was able to get some pretty nice things for my friends, you know a license plate frame, a mug, and a few other little things. I went to the Guild and the HU book store. The Delta's must have crossed recently or are about to cross at Howard because they were pretty much wiped out at the book store. By the way, I don't think anyone would think I was doing anything shady with those gifts. I think I would be a little too conspicuous, me being a male and all Thanks again ladies.
