Michael Moore
...is coming to my campus next week.
I don't know that much about him because I don't keep up with politics and all that. I did watch Bowling for Columbine in class and thought it was pretty good. Didn't get a chance to see Fahrenhite (sp?) 911 though. Hopefully I'll get to learn more about him next week.

I havent seen his newest movie, but i really liked roger and me. I had to watch it for a class a few years back.
I think it would be worth watching before you go see him, that is if you are going to go.

Just curious, but did your professor not challenge any of Moore's assertions in that film? Did anyone? What was the class about?

I wish hell upon the greediest of the dominant coalition, so I didn't mind seeing Roger Smith portrayed in not such a great light. The only thing that stood out in Roger and me was that there was a Delta Sig being interviewed (reisdent of Flint).
We had to watch it for a class too, but my prof is in love with Michael Moore.

I'm sure most of the film-school art assholes will grab firmly ahold of his nuts, but Moore is a self-righteous clown, no more correct or important than the people he lampoons.
He's as far from the "genius" he's been labeled as is humanly possible - he's actually wasted the amazing potential he once carried. He is one of the best technical filmmakers I've ever seen - but his endless posturing and politiking, even while short on "facts" or "evenhandedness" gets old fast. Shit in a t-shirt, that's all I have to say.

He'll be at UCF on Oct. 2. I guess he's trying to make his rounds before the election.

I am planning on goin. This is UofM-Dearborn... celebs don't frequent our campus.
The class was Urban Geography and our teacher was discussing outsourcing. I didn't pay attention to much but I think the prof liked him.

What did that movie have to do with outsourcing?

The class that I had to watch it for was Urban Public Issues.. I was an Urban Planning major.
There wasn’t much discussion done on it in class, it was a larger class, he just had us watched different movies throughout the semester to show different effects things can have on a community and what can be done as urban planners.
With all this uproar over him lately though, it does make me want to go back and watch it again since I haven’t seen it in a while, along with his other movies just to see them.
oh and the movie was about general motors moving all of its jobs overseas and closing down its plants in flint michigan where the community was basically built up around the plants.

Yeah that's basically what I meant by outsourcing, even tho it might not be considered that.

I guess he is coming to our campus on wednesday.
The funny part was that our school wanted to invite him and he said no less than $50,000 and 5000 audience members. But now he is coming for free??
Oh well!

Most of the film school kiddies (from the serious film schools) I know/knew can't stand M.M. On the realm of documentary film makers, he's seen as rather lowbrow.
"Roger and Me" is probably a pretty good movie to show the impact of industry leaving an area.
