Unhappy Say a prayer for Ajax

So we've had our dog Ajax for over 10 years now. We adopted her from the Delt house when she was just a puppy but she had to be fostered by my brother in law for about 6 months until Mr. MrsMcCartney got his own place. She is a really cool dog....she is a German Shepherd/Wolf hybrid and she's really pretty. She used to have frisbee-dog skills. We would play what we called "Air Ajax." We would set up obstacles for her to jump to see how high she could go.....it was amazing what she could do. She still can get some serious air even at 11.

Unfortunately, she started to seem out of sorts about a month ago. She was peeing and pooping all over the house and not eating real well. Then she started throwing up. It has taken three vet visits, numerous tests, and $600 to find out what is wrong. She has a terminal liver condition. We don't know which specific liver condition it is because we are not opting for an ultrasound to find out for sure. The only possible treatment would be chemo if it turned out to be a malignancy, which would be extremely expensive and very stressful on her, especially at her age. The outcome is the same in any case. Her liver is struggling and eventually will fail. The vet doesn't know how long she has in terms of quality life, but she has given me some suggestions to help her feel more comfortable and possibly improve her liver function for the time being. Ultimately, we will notice a yellowing of her mucous membranes and that means end game.

As of right now she seems to be feeling a little better. She is holding her bladder and bowels better and she is eating now that I have bought her some Vita-gravy for her dry food. No yellowing yet and she is still really enthusiastic. But knowing the inevitable is really tough.

((HUGG))
Today's not a good day for me to hear about dogs. My sister's co-worker's dog got hit by a car and I had to find info for them on canine hip-reconstruction/replacement surgery at ISU's Vet Med.

It always sucks to lose a longtime pet. Had to put down my 15 year old cat after he had a stroke earlier this year.

A few months later, I got a new kitten. The good thing is that if this one makes it to 15, I won't have to deal with that again until I'm 40.
