What's your favorite DG song?

Chapters used to sing WAY more than they do now. Blame our informal lifestyle. We would sing at dinner, between the meal and dessert, while our "servants" cleared the table.
As a PCC, I couldn't believe so few chapters had even heard "Dream Girl," much less sung it!
I loved to sing "Anchors Aweigh," with 2-part harmony. "Dream Girl" was a favorite, and of course the Romper Song and the funny "Hannah - My Delta Gamma." Ever sung the "country version" of "Do I See An Anchor?"
I once met the husband of an older alum from a different chapter. He could still sing all the words to "Hard-Hearted Hannah!"
What's your favorite song? Not chant, but favorite song?

Re: What's your favorite DG song?

Mine would be "Will You Wear Our Anchor?". It definitely made me cry while we were singing it as this past pref, since it would be my last pref as a collegian

Wow AnchorAlumna, apparently there are quite a few DG songs that I've never even heard of! I guess it's because I'm a relatively young member, having graduated in 2000, and like you said, the songs just aren't sung as much anyomre. Of the ones you mentioned I've only heard of "Dream Girl" and "Do I See an Anchor." How do the other ones go?

I havent heard a lot of these either. I have heard the same songs you have Amanda! But my chapter sucks at wanting to get new songs. I wish we would though.

All can be found in the current DG songbook. Seems like I heard that a new one will be coming out.
Here's one of the fun ones. Too bad things just get lost over the years, like the "Delta Gamma call" (see the DG Constitution). Or the "Delta Gamma Goat" song.

Romper Song
Oh I'm a Delta Gamma
and I'm mighty proud to say
That all the other fraternities
May go along their way.
For I'm a Delta Gamma
And as my life unfolds
I will stand by my fraternity
and all that she upholds.

And when I have a sweetheart
I will want him straight and tall,
To know the Delta Gamma song
and Delta Gamma call.
And when we have a bungalow
Our dreams will all come true
For it's when you marry a Delta G,
Your dreams they always do.

And when I have a daughter
I will dress her like a dream.
I'll send her off to college
Just to be a DG queen.
She'll never be a Pi Phi
OR wear a Kappa key
She will never be a Tri Delt
For she'll be a Delta G

And when I have a son
I will show you something new.
I'll make his little rompers
Out of bronze and pink and blue.
And when he goes to college
I know just what he'll do.
He will rush the Delta Gammas
Like his daddy used to do.

(Slower)
And when I go to heaven
Meet St. Peter at the game (KNOCK KNOCK)
And when he starts to question me,
I'll tell him not to wait.
For all the little angels,
that come from east and west
Oh, every little angel
Wears an anchor on her breast.
(MRS. ST. PETER WAS A DG, TOO!)

We sing my favorite song during initiation, so I won't say the name

We had an old song book at our house, and I remember one of the songs was horrible, it was to the tune of "Shortnin' Bread":

"All the little pledges are fat and rolly
All the little pledges need to lose some weight
So put down the cookies, put down the cake,
Put down the pie for beauty's sake"

HAHA!! I remember that one!

"All the little pledges are fat and jolly
All the little pledges eat all day long.
So you see we're awfully sorry
And we sing you this mournful song:
Put down the pie! Put down the cake!
Just for the reason of beauty's sake.
Don't touch the candy! Don't touch the pie!
Gettin' so thin I'm about to die."

However...given the widespread eating disorders we have today, that might not be the best song to learn!
Do I dare post the words to "Hannah, My Delta Gamma"?

Thaaats what it was...the later verses in Hannah my Delta Gamma aren't much more savory.

At convention in June, delegates were not only given a complete songbook, they were also given a CD of a DG singing every one of the songs. You need to check with your presidents. Both the CD and songbook are very well done. I have a copy of the CD myself.

Check Anchor Trader...if it's not there, then contact EO and ask how to order.
