Post What is Hatin'-Really??

I was at a block show and I did not like a step the Sigmas did. I personally felt the beat was to fast for my liking. But they did a good job. When I told someone I did not like the beat I was called a hater. Haven't we put this word into overkill. Many instances we call people haters for trivial acts they do. It seems to me that the word has become an umbrella term for any response an individual makes that is not solely positive. "I did not like artist so and so's last album"-response"Why are you hatin'"

When did me having an opinion or expressing me views become hatin'. I am sorry for ranting for so long but this topic has just been bugging me.

You're right, hatin' now seems to be used whenever someone refers to something negatively, or just simply disagrees. not to say that you are a hater, because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. i, for one, am also tired of being called a hater whenever i disagree with someone.....it's called my opinion. the word hater is getting old isn't it?

Yes Deep Phreeze, people are using that word too much. If you don't like something, you have every right to say so. It's not hating, it's just something you're not into. Now if you said you didn't like the step because it was Sigmas, then that's hating. People get it right. Hatin is when you trying to hold someone down from being successful at whatever they are doing. This could come in the form of derogatory comments. You can dislike something without being a hater. If you don't like broccoli, does that mean you hatin on broccoli?

I agree with all of you. I think the word "hatin" is used too much. It used in every other song and even on this board, people accuse each other "hatin" over a difference of opinion.
Now, I guess I'll be accused of hatin' on the haters!

I totally agree. Negativity is going to happen, I don't care if you're Snow White, there is SOMETHING that you don't like. It doesn't mean that you're 'hatin', it just means that it's not for you. The fact that you said that you didn't like their show AND that they did a good job shows that you weren't 'hatin'. You were giving them credit for a job well done, however, their show was 'not your style', so to say. I give you thumbs up for recognizing that they did a good job too. Lots of people don't do that. They just say they didn't like the show and leave it at that, not recognizing the hard work or talent that the group might have. What you did was NOT 'hatin', it was showing that you are a well rounded person.

Ok, this is totally off the post, maybe I'm wierd, but I eat Miracle Whip on my broccoli.
