FSU Sororities
Hey everyone! I was just wondering what the Sororities at FSU were like. I am thinking about transfering there in fall 2005 and was wondering how good the chapters are and if they take a lot of sophomores and what rush is like...pretty much any info would be great! thanks so much!

PenguinTrax serves as GreekChat's goddess of FSU sorority information, so check out some of her posts. There are also some threads in the recruitment stories forum that will give you some insight into this year's rush. FSU has a fantastic Greek system overall, with a lot of top-notch chapters and alum support. Many of the FSU chapters have won national awards. As far as sophomores rushing, many of them got bids when I was there, but that was back in the dark ages of the 1980s (when PhiPsiRuss and I would stop at the Phyrst on our way to class!), so things have probably changed since then.
Good luck with transferring and with rush!

i agree
with russ and angelove. fsu sororities on the whole are terrific, but i will tell you this, it will be harder as a sophomore than it would be to pledge as a freshman. recommendations are a must, and to hedge your bet, get involved on your present campus in an organization or two and keep your grades up. that being said, a cousin of mine did not rush her freshman year-and regretted it!- and went thru as a sophomore and pledged a top house. she was a direct legacy, however. it can be done, but don't count on it. like russ said, check out the panhellenic site and visit the individual chapter websites.

It will be harder, but my best friend went through Recruitment as a sophomore without recs, and got great choices for Pref, but dropped because her No. 1 house dropped her (I think she was way silly for this... the houses she got invited back to were REALLY GOOD).
I'd still advise trying to secure recommendations. It will give you an edge over the other sophomores at least.

While it will be harder for a sophmore to rush, every sorority at FSU (last time I checked) takes sophmores and juniors.

FSU does not have the 'free' junion/senior thing. Many chapters will take transfers, etc., it all depends on what their current membership makeup is and where they need to fill in.
I believe that upperclassmen may have an easier time via COB, but not all chapters participate, obviously.
