Rather's source

According to the Washington Post and writer Michael Dobbs:

Rather's documents have a heading saying they were FAXed from Kinkos in Abilene, TX.

Abilene is 21 miles from the home of retired (since 1998) TX Natl. Guard officer Bill Burkett. He says he suffered a nervous breakdown and was hospitalized for depression after he left the guard.

He has a long-running dispute with the guard regarding medical benefits concerning a tropical disease after an assignment in Panama.

Burkett earlier accused Bush aides of ordering destruction of portions of Bush's National Guard records, and said he overheard a spring 1997 phone conversation during Bush's 1997 governor campaign. The people Burkett named as overheard strongly denied the allegations.

----------

To summarize (mine, not the Wash Post): If there was a way to examine the hard disk at the self-service computer at Kinkos, you'd probably find the forged documents.

The forgery was done my a disgruntled NG officer, who has a history of mental illness and a grudge against the administration which has denied him benefits.

That's interesting.

Weren't the heads of the Fast Boat Truth in Lending Brigade or Whatever also from Texas?

Didn't everyone report that?

If the story is about a member of the Texas National Guard, where the heck else would the stuff come from?

I thought it was from a mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wagnall's back porch.

I fully expected it to come out of Texas and it did indeed.
And Burkett has had an axe to grind with Bush for a long time. He has some serious illnesses which developed during his service, and he blames the Bush family since his most serious illness came about during a stint in the Panama Canal Zone while 41 was President when Noriega was removed from office.

His attorney, however, is a BIG Democrat running for the Texas Supreme Court. State party official, went to Florida in 2000 as a party advisor in the recount. I think as time goes by and this continues to come out, we will see that Burkett is a front man, a puppet for some of the big wigs who are up to mischief.
I lived in Texas for 20 years. Politics is a blood sport there

Well, since the controversy revolves around a former member of the Texas Air National Guard, I suspect there are some OFFICIAL documents in Texas.

There are probably some in Washington D.C., and probably some in Indianapolis.

I do applaud DOD for answering a Freedom Of Information Act request by saying they will search for any more documents on The President's service and release them.
