World Cup of Hockey
Anyone been watching so far? I caught the 2 games Canada played and Finland vs. Czech. Better get your hockey fix while you can!

I've seen both Canada games - terrific games they were!
I know, it's depressing to think this is all the hockey we might get this year

I've caught both Canada games. Very exciting stuff!!
But it's a giant bummer that Jovanovski is out of the tournament.
 .
I really hope this isn't the only hockey we'll have. Well Toronto always has the St. Mikes Majors. I suppose I can always catch some OHL action.

Watching the USA vs Russia game right now.... good game with some physical play. US team lacks good defensive zone control, while the Russian are weak in the neutral zone - but both have a decent offense - so there has been a number of very close plays so far...
<Edit>
Well Russia won 3-1... and there was a few tussles at the end of the game... and of course upset US fans throwing beer onto the Russia bench... but by far my favourite was Hull storming off the ice and not staying for the end of game handshake(guess he's mad that Canada turned him down... serves him right for Salt Lake).

Hull was turned down far before SLC. He's played with the Americans for a long time. I don't think he ever asks to play with the Canadian teams anymore.

Actually he was asked to play for Canada in SLC, but instead chose to play for the US (dual citizen) and made some flipant remarks about Canada as well.... fast forward to the present... scouting for the Canadian world cup team (I still think of it as the Canada Cup) gears up and Hull complains that he hasn't been asked by Canada... he's basically told the team requires "team players not me players"... priceless.

Really? I didn't know he was asked to play in SLC.
I know the reason he doesn't play for Canada anymore is because he was cut from the team one year, threw a hissy fit and decided he would never play for Canada again. I don't remember hearing about him being asked to play for us in 2002.
I'm not upset. He obviously wasn't good enough at the time to play for Canada, and he goes where he can get a spot on the team. I have no problems with it.
The only thing in Canadian hockey history that pisses me off is when Gretzky was sitting on the bench in Nagano during the shoot out.
WHY IN THE NAME OF WHATEVER GOD YOU BELIEVE IN WOULD YOU SIT THE GREATEST HOCKEY PLAYER OF ALL TIME ON THE BENCH IN A CRUCIAL MOMENT??????
Even if he missed, you still have to give the man a chance. Any coach with half a brain would know that!
Anyway, enough of my rant.

Wasn't he cut from the '96 World Cup of Hockey team? Or was it before that? I remember hearing a name that I swore was Canadian playing for a US team and I was like WTF???

Brodeur's out and Luongo's in tonight. Hopefully the team can rally around their backup, who is a hell of a goalie. Should be a good game.
