Stupid hurricane chasers

Poor Judy Echavez, of Miami's WPLG-ABC 10 TV, was in the Bahamas chasing Frances, and had a rib broken when a cement block struck her in the back.

I'm sorry she got hurt, but it's stupid for every station to have slicker-clad people standing on the beach telling us "It's coming, and it's big and bad." Even Dan Rather was out chasing the storm last week.

When we were nice and safe in Chicago watching the Frances coverage, we kept yelling at idiots like Jim Cantore to go inside.

The best was when Stephanie Abrams was in Daytona or New Smyrna Beach and a piece of debris came after her and she flipped out. Hello! You're in the middle of a freakin' hurricane. If it hurts, go inside!

During Charley, there was a newscaster standing outside talking about how the wind that was whipping around felt like pins and needles against his face. You could tell he was in excrutiating pain by his awful facials contortions but still stood outside. The hurricane is big and it's dangerous. We don't need you to stand outside with 90mph to let us know this; we can see it outside our windows by the way our trees are swaying back and forth and how are neighbor's ficus tree landed in front lawn (true story).

Heh, I can't wait to see if they'll be out in the 140 mph winds for Ivan.

I know I'll be evacuating tomorrow morning to Hattiesburg. It's good that my older brother lives there-every single hotel room in Mississippi is sold out.
