Dance Classes
Does anyone take any dance classes like Salsa, Belly, or Hula?

Formal hula lessons from age 4 to 15, competed in the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival in 1993 and 1994. I don't take lessons anymore, but I'll still perform once in a while at parties or whenever someone brings out an `ukulele and starts strumming a song.
I've also taken tap, jazz, and street at various points in my life. I took a Salsa class just for fun at UH, and I had a blast.

I took ballet and jazz on and off until I was 20 (never amounted to much) and was a member of the swing dancing club in university.

I was a hardcore ballet dancer until I was 15 and my teacher said I wasn't skinny enough to pursue it at any level so I quit until college. Then I took a ballet class for credit and was also on the dance team. I've taken a belly dancing class and also jazz, tap and modern.

I took dance lessons (tap, ballet, mosern, jazz) for several years until high school. In college I took ballet as a P.E. class. It gave me the best butt and thighs I had ever had.

I took jazz for 2 years but stopped because it conflicted with other extra curricular activities. I miss it and often think about taking an adult class.

Ballet for over 15 years off and on from kindergarden through college. I also tried Jazz, Tap and Street but they didn't interest me the way Ballet did.

I have a BFA in dance and have danced professionally in NY with 2 modern companies and a dance/theatre company. Most of my training is in ballet, with a lot of modern and jazz during my college years as well.
Are you looking to take classes? My only word of caution is to be wary of the levels. In NYC (and I'm sure it's true in most big cities) if you take a "beginner" ballet/tap/jazz/modern class, you are likely to be in class with people who already know what they are doing - pros who are injured or just want a slow class for the day, BFA/MFA students, and non-pros who have at least been taking for a few years. However, I do think ballroom classes (which include latin) are more true to description in terms of levels. Just really check it out with the studio - you don't want to pay for a class where you stand in the back and watch!

i did hip hop and jazz for about 2-3yrs back in middle school, but had to stop to have surgery on my feet.
my cousin though danced classical ballet with the pacific northwest ballet co. in seattle for about a year. she was only 17 when she started dancing with them. but she stopped dancing due to injury and decided not to go back.
she got tired of the bs. she was anorexic and they were pushing her to lose even more weight. go figure.

I got really into swing dancing when it became the "in" thing back in the late 90s. I was part of a club in high school and took lessons once in a while. Took ballroom dancing my first semester of college and loved it. It included swing, foxtrot, cha cha, tango, the waltz, and the hustle (yeah that was fun.)
I also took a jazz class in college. I've never took lessons as a child so I was a little behind but it was definitely a beginning class.
And now I'm into line dancing and I go to a hip hop class at my gym once in a while.

I took dance for about 13 years (ballet early on, some modern and lyrical, many years of jazz and tap) before college. I have even taken some irish tap classes.
I recently got back into it now after graduating. Its a great way to stay in shape. I have always thought that taking salsa dance classes would be fun. Though I always find it hard to let someone lead me unless they really know what they are doing. I always want to take over.
